My submission, using NI's Massive X.

https://soundcloud.com/terjefjelde/fever-dreams

I spent a lot of time taming this thing (the song!). It's still pretty dense, but I like these "creating order from chaos" projects. I can't quite decide whether the overall effect is claustrophobic or liberating - which pleases me!

NI Massive X: 37 instances from scratch
DAW: PreSonus Studio One Professional

EQ: PreSonus ProEQ, Fuse Audio Labs RS W2395c, Lindell PEX-500, Newfangled EQuivocate, GEM EQ550, Elysia Niveau, TBProAudio sTilt
Saturation: Brainworx Black Box HG-2, Klanghelm IVGI, Signal Noise SN03-G Taperecorder
Dynamics: Klanghelm DC1A
Mastering: PSP Xenon, Flux Stereo Tool

Massive X has dozens of built-in wavetables, but for this project I used only one of them 95% of the time, the Sin-Tri-Saw-SQ. It's as basic as they come, but there are still so many options with the built-in modulation, filters and effects that I had no trouble at all getting the sounds I needed for this project.

I am thinking about creating special "birdsynthetiser" just for this challenge. Does this comply to rules? :-)

I will release it with my composition (and make it open source as other my synths are) for other to be able to beat me with my own arms. ;-)

Actually - this sounds like interesting challenge and great opportunity to code some unusual synth.

Here's a little paper describing the basics about how birds "sing", describe a model of the "components" involved and finishes with a mathlab implementation... https://medium.com/@IckeIlknur/central- ... d09d6936c0
Probably you can use that for a starting point ;-) I was a little frustrated beccaue I was looking for a recipie to make my synths sing like birds with sines and frequency modulation, but it seems it's more complicated than that.

That's one interesting question. I doubt that there are rules that can be applied to this. I'd say go for it! You've got the advantage to be (one of) the first to try this in OSC. I guess if something like that happens more frequently in Any One Synth challenges, there will be a statement in the rules that clarifies whether this approach is allowed or not.

Aaand ... here's my submission :)
I always hated Tyrell N6, mainly because of its awkward oscillator section. But because there are so many people who love it, I wanted to give it a shot.

Also shout out to the OSC people who got me into Drum and Bass, mainly mmghost, Zarf and J.Ruegg. This song is heavily inspired by mid-late 90s "intelligent"/athmospheric D'n'B (e.g. Artemis, PFM) and of course the OSC people. However, even all this good inspiration doesn't cure me entirely from my awkward-transition-illness x)

Sit back and enjoy!

Uh. This is more math than I can actually digest. :ud:

My current approach is a lot simpler - I have Juno-style oscilator tuned to some flute-like sound, three LFOs moving pitch and volume in that way, that it just stopped sounding like a car alarm and now it has more birdish sound. 8)

However, it still needs more tweaking and some clever way to introduce randomness to it. Also it need to be both musical and natural. Really interesting challenge.

### Preview / Draft ###

Please, can sbdy check whether this "strange high pitch" sounds in my track qualify for bird song? I think one of my birds has swallowed a moog synth ... or probably a behringer clone... it doesn't sound original 70ties... hm, anyways probably a big bird. Speaking about swallows - What is the top air speed of an unladen swallow (the unavoidable Monty Python "Holy Grail" reference when it comes to birds)?
You might even hear a woodpeaker (from space?) peaking wood... far far away...

Reading about bird song, I come to appreciate mother nature even more ... hilarious little artists with a broad variety of languages.

Hi Peter, I like this preview a lot. Beautifully groovy, and I also like the harmony in it. I like it when you go groovy.
About the "strange high pitch" sounds ... I'd not count all of them as birds, but there were definitely some in there :tu:
And nice that you left out the info on what synth you used, so we can guess :D I'd definitely go for some well-made VA synth. But I actually haven't used any commercial VA style synths, so I have no clue. Diva? nah... or maybe? :ud:
What do the others think?

This month is 'Any One Synth' so go right ahead. As long as all sounds in your track come from the one-synth (and no samples involved) it should be fine. Also the synth should be made available by the time you post your entry.

I think this sounds exciting - and you have definitely set yourself a double challenge here.

19 Instances of Native Instruments Massive (Not Massive X)
Only the wavetables and white/bright noise oscillators were used, none of the other "noise" samples.

Almost all reverb and delay are also from Massive, though I used Valhalla Delay for some parts too (it's the long ringing tape delays)
Bird sounds were mostly the lunacy wavetable

This was my 13th attempt this month at producing a KVR OSC track. I was working on different elements, just playing with ideas and re-exploring Massive when I realized they would all work together quite well.

I chose Massive because it's versatile, it can be precise and digital (important for percussion) as well as sound analog, it also has excellent built In effects (the distortion on the kick was crucial). I love this synth.

On the master bus is Elysia Alpha, Softube Weiss DS1-MK3 (It's just on demo, I can't pay $500 for a compressor.. can I?) NI Massive Passive EQ and Fabfilter Pro-L limiter

Some incredible submissions everyone, the percussion work on some of these is amazing too.
