Is this telling us how much CPU time and RAM modern software wastes? Ironic, since the most efficient Mac OS X version was the first to abandon PPC (Snow Leopard).Passing Bye wrote: Sun Apr 19, 2020 2:33 pmLittle off topic, but found this interesting videoel-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: Sun Apr 19, 2020 1:15 pmI still have my Logic 7, 8 & 9 discs, somewhere. This remix contains about 3 to 5 audio snippets or so from the original recordings, like vocals or piano - so all synths, drums & fx are live AU instruments.
Not a single track is frozen and as one can see the CPU meter ranges about just above half at all times. No dreaded bursts at all.
When I open this song in Logic 9 one on my Mac Pro 3,1, which by benchmarks should have about triple the G5's power, it will use about three quarters of CPU. Yes - MORE CPU than the 2005 G5.
Latest Logic X however would not play it at all - it stops immediately after hitting Play.

How about fixing it for him that old Macs also run Catalina. That's the name of an OS version on the Mac platform, the platform that all of us in the thread actually using Logic run.chk071 wrote: Sun Apr 19, 2020 3:38 pmRight. Good to hear that Apple finally support their devices a bit longer. The way it was before, it was 7-8 years, max. IIRC, the iMac of a relative, from 2009, was only able to run Sierra as highest.

I wasn't agreeing with his point, just having a laugh.
Also, to be fair, backwards compatiblity on Windows is also always dependent on the good will of the manufacturers. Don't think I had a single mainboard which got mopre than 2 years of BIOS updates, for example, and, more relevant, most manufacturers of other hardware, like wi-fi cards, also only update their drivers for a very short time, so, if it goes really badly, you'll end up with a non-working devices after some Windows 10 updates. It happened to me with a sound card. Entirely ASUS' fault though.
Fortunately, Microsoft makes it rather easy for manufacturers to update their devices nowadays (Windows Update). Anyway, back to Logic.

Correct.
I’ve explained where I gathered my impressions. If you don’t accept an impression based the sources I’ve mentioned, that’s fine. If you hate “the media”, you’ve got an issue I cannot help, nor do I have the inclination to try. I’m not going down this path of argumentation with you.
It’s not required to personally know Apple employees when journalists have verified their sources, especially when what they say is consistently aligned with the statements of countless other named & unnamed sources.![]()

I'm curious about that 'test'. I assume all the plugins are the same, but they cannot be exactly the same from PPC Mac to Intel Mac.Jace-BeOS wrote: Sun Apr 19, 2020 3:41 pmIs this telling us how much CPU time and RAM modern software wastes? Don't understand this statement, most vendors continued to make plugins after PPC, actually they offered universal binaries up until one point where everything was Intel only, but some vendors kept supporting PPC nonetheless, it's not like PPC plugins died in 2005.pdxindy wrote: Sun Apr 19, 2020 5:04 pm I assume all the plugins are the same, but they cannot be exactly the same from PPC Mac to Intel Mac.
You mean maybe PPC plugin versions were coded little differently or maybe more optimized?

It's kind of like they're more interested in arguing about the tools they have than about using them...Cinebient wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2020 12:20 pm It is more strange that people often (yes i might suffer myself sometimes) get really emotional about these things and still have to say things in every thread.
If you really find a company is the devil and hate all they do, no one force you to use it. But many people seems to are on a kind of religion war to prove other people wrong and teach them their view of the world.
Whatever. Logic, best DAW ever for me. No other DAW comes with more content but yeah, Its all just the devils masterplan![]()
