Hi! I'm brand new to MUTOOLS. I was using Cakewalk a while back, but have been out of it for several years. Cakewalk is gone, I heard good things about this program, and I purchased it. Are there any basic videos, that start with "you've opened the program, and here's how to get started"? I have my MIDI controller hooked up, and my ASIO working. I can hear sounds from the one synth that's already opened. But I need to see how to add VST's, and get started with the basics. The literature says "add VSTs through the manage VSTs function". Where the heck is that? I need to start at first grade and work my way up with ";click here to open this", "you'll find this by clicking here" type instructions. If anyone can point me in the right directions, that would be helpful. I know how DAW's work in general, I just don't know where all the functions are in this one...

I don't have it right in front of me but at the top left if you click the Mulab button the manage vst section should be there + a shortcut section. . Also here's a very basic starter/review for Mulab 8 also Dakkra has some good videos on YouTube as well.

Yeah It would be good to have some videos to help guide through basics of some modules uses.

Well, I'm super glad I asked since I'm not the only one! Ok, I used the manage VST button as you suggested, and, I found my VST! It's called Surge. It scanned the VST, and said it was ready to go. But now what? On the right hand side, where it says "what/where/which", shouldn't I click on "what", click on "VST Synth", and then it shows up? I did that, but it didn't show up, even though it's in the manager...

I learned more in 5 minutes watching that video than I learned in an hour last night. Thank you! I'll keep looking for more basic videos from Dakkra too. BTW, in watching that video, I saw that after you add an instrument track, VST comes up, I clicked on it, and viola, there was Surge!

Why does it tell me that GTG 44 is a 32 bit .dll and can't be run? Also, it doesn't recognize T-Force Alpha Plus x64 as a VST plug in? There is also something called REX shared library that says it's not a recognized VST plug in (I didn't download this one, I don't know what it is). I downloaded 2 other VST's and had no problem finding them and getting them to work.

Microsoft provides no native way for a Windows application developed for a 64 bit CPU to use library code developed for a 32 bit CPU (and not the other way, either). You can run a 64 bit or 32 bit applications - but they use 64 bit or 32 bit libraries, respectively. To run a 32 bit application on 64 bit Windows, there's a virtual 32 bit CPU wrapping the application. If a 64 bit application wants to use a 32 bit library, it needs to do something similar - start up its own virtual 32 bit machine, install the 32 code, and then bridge across. This is called bridging.
MuLab doesn't do bridging.

Got it. I think most of the VST's I have are 32 bit, that's probably part of the problem. On the 2 I have managed to download, and that I can see, I can open it (Surge), and the synthesizer shows up on my screen. However, it's not loading any of the library sounds. I am bound and determined to figure this out... I know it's me just learning.
