You can get single hits with MDrummer if you put notes on MIDI channel 10. That way you won't be triggering beats but rather single drum instrument hits.
Notes on MIDI channel 1 will trigger beats and fills.
If you get instruments instead on beats, could it be that the notes are actually on channel 10, which is a default for drum machines ?
Sometimes within a single track I combine notes from both channels so I can get beats and fills and occasional drum hits here and there. Bitwig allows to have different note colours based on their MIDI channels which makes MIDI tracks easier to read.

Not sure about this..I think I'm set to all midi channels which suddenly makes wonder if that might be the problem..LOL
I'm not what you'd call an advanced user of Cubase even though I've had it for a long time, I barely scratch the surface and spend most of my time producing a song rather than digging in to cubase, which isn't good I know..but evrytime I've invested in software I've had no or minimal trouble getting it going..unlike Mdrummer, dunno why it doesn't have the facility to drag loop midi to a track though..
getting help from Melda and it seems that the chord track in Cubase was interfering with Mdrummer..lets see..

A new user to the wonderful world of Melda myself and struggled with MDrummer and Live. What really pushed it into the brainbox for me was when I hooked up an old keyboard to just control MDrummer. I then at last understood the intro - beat - break - longbreak - outro and the variable velocity complexity of each. Still use it mostly this way to input midi for it and to control it if I'm jamming away.
Worth the frustration as I find it just extraordinary.

Yeah..it is clearly a very powerful piece of gear but I'm finding it almost impossible to work with..so frustrating, never seems to do what I'm trying to get it to do..wish it had (sort of) simple version..intermediate version and then advanced version,
