Count me as someone who liked Logic 7 look wise, I liked 4 actually.
I like a mostly flat look, and the darker grey. Also the chain link and running man switches. Looked like an East German product. Plus, and this is huge to me, at some point they minimized the space that's allocated to the images on the tracks. I spent some time making and collecting tons of wild images for Logic tracks.

everything was a god damn blob.
Microtonic still looks like thaT :(
At least there were dogdamned button shapes and not just guessing what’s a control and what’s not.

I have zero nostalgia for the older versions. Some of the idiotic GUI concepts from then (which were always against Apple UI rules... back when Apple still had those) have been killed in X, and good riddance to them. I DO miss detailed graphics and elegant bevels though. Logic X started with them but went flat and “minimal” a few updates ago. 👎🏼

I love Logic 7's look. The non-docked floating windows and menus and lack of wasted space was great.

Exactly. It was still customizable, haven't figured out yet how to get rid of the volume faders on every track in X, and I'm betting you can't. IMO some of the decisions made for UX and ease of use cost some usability once you really know the program. In v8 for instance it was deemed bad UX by Apple and the Logic team to allow hidden tracks to not be hidden in the Arrange Page. How often do you want to automate aux tracks? Drove me nuts when that changed.

Right click / two-finger tap / control click on the row of tracks and find your answer in the context menu...

I have the opposite opinion on that. Around Logic 6 or so I really started to hate the floating windows. It became a task in window management and I personally hate anything that gets in the way of making music. However, if floating windows floats your boat (heh), Logic still allows that quite easily. Everything can be a floating window for the most part. From the transport, to all the separate editing modes. Look in the Window menu. You can create your own custom screenset for that as well for easy recall.

Honestly, I'm not in love with the look of Logic Pro X. It strikes me as somewhat somber. It doesn't make me happy when I open it. Not a shred of logic in that, though one could debate color combinations.

That's a shame

I imagine it'll eventually end up in Mainstage, also. However, it'd still make sense in Logic, as such functionality can really help in the composition process :tu:

You can defend a company that makes BILLIONS off Music sales, and still can't update it's music app all you want....EVEN with clever quotes. Some of us are sheep and just accept sub par corporate stuff...some of us are like "WTF IS GOING ON". But I appreciate you taking the time to show which side you are on!

"Defend"??!!

Against what, or whom?

You, perhaps?

Do you imagine this is a war? If so, against whom...or what?

Oh yes....ZOMG!! THE CORPORATIONS!!

Are you attacking ZOMG!! THE CORPORATIONS!!?? by complaining that some of the Logic gui are not as pretty as the others? Perhaps it's because the company who's DAW hasn't cost a penny for six years is not giving you enough new toys to make music with.

Apple HAVE been updating Logic...with bug-fixes. Y'know...the same bug-fixes you wanted all the way back in....oh...this post:

So, perhaps I'm defending Apple against your empty whining

ZOMG!! THE CORPORATIONS!!

I have my own gripes against Apple and also Logic. However, I am very happy with my day-to-day experience with Logic, and it feels anything but sub-par. My choice is well-informed (Been making music with computers for over 30 years, and have spent time in tons of DAW), so it's not like I'm just 'accepting' anything. You, on the other hand, are unhappy and whining about it, but yet you're still gonna 'bend the knee' when it comes to taking what Apple gives you. So who is the sheep?

Incidentally, I'm platform and OS agnostic. I might have my preferences, but really they are all just tools, to me. Despite being a Mac/Logic user since 2007, it's very likely that my next computer will be a PC desktop, running Reaper and Bitwig. Just a new set of tools for this artist; nothing more, nothing less.

If you are as anti-Apple as you seem, and if Logic is just not good enough for you, perhaps just change your tools. Simple.

Well, we already know some of what is going on, and it's not hard to speculate on the rest.

I wish that Logic and Final Cut had the same design language.

i've been trying to make "fcpx" color template with Logic Pro Coloriser but it's too much.

I absolutely love how FCPX looks and feels and the violet/purple's are

I really wish logic had a "dark mode" similar to FCPX.

It's pretty sterile, if not somber, but it doesn't affect me, really, like the lack of sun here in Seattle affects many (but not me). I was using Matthew's UI themes, but he's not able to make them properly since the last update, so they've become obsolete. I foolishly bought LPX Colorizer not seeing their rather small, though in red, warning that their software doesn't fully work since the latest updates, as well, so that was a waste. Now I hope reading your post doesn't subliminally affect me each time I work in Logic - I don't want my joy to be affected.

Post

I hadn't heard of LPX Colorizer before. Does anyone know of any alternative that works with the latest versions? Or isn't that kind of functionality supported by Logic anymore?
