The envelope generator sliders go from 0 to 100 units. Is there any way to correlate the unit to a time value for the release, say? I could not see this in the manual. Some synth modules let you see that release is 8000ms for example. I know all the setting readouts are in units, but maybe I have missed something.

I don't have such data at hand, so it's easier to just do a quick test yourself.
Starting with the init preset, at release 100.00 I got about 19 seconds of release tail, i.e. the point where I couldn't hear the signal properly anymore.
At 50.00 I got a little under 3 seconds.
That of course will vary once you start modulating the envelope rate. Or if you set the env to "Snappy", the release reaches up to 33 seconds even.
The easiest solution, try a few values and stop the time.

I would do the same, but control oscillator pitch with a second envelope instead (set the amp envelope release to maximum). Reason: It's easier to hear when the pitch stops changing than when the signal finally disappears.

True!
