Win 10. T7, WF10, and WF 11 installed.
In both WF10 and WF 11, entries for uninstalled plugins still appear in my plugin menu. In WF 11 (ver. 11.0.26), if I drag the plugin into a track, a yellow triangle with and exclamation mark appears. In WF 10, there's no triangle.
When I go to the plugin tab, and do a search for the plugin name, it appears. When I right click and "Show folder containing plugin," I'm directed to this path/folder: C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins\Tracktion. I should point out that I'm always directed to this path, for all plugins.
I've tried clicking "remove plugin from list," but the plugin still appears in my plugin menu.
I've searched for the plugin by name using Explorer, and they don't seem to exist on my system. In some instances, I've manually deleted the plugin .dll, as they were free/demos, and installing it meant simply copying the .dll to a VST folder. I have more than a few uninstalled plugins with ghost entries, and things are getting really messy.
So, the question is, how do I remove these "ghost" entries? I strongly suspect it's locked in the "knownpluginslist.settings" file in this path:C:\Users\me\AppData\Roaming\Tracktion\Waveform, but I don't want to randomly delete a file without knowing the ramifications.
Suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Does the "Scanning and sorting" -> "Remove any plug-ins whose files no longer exist" not do what you want?

It does now! I swear, I tried that twice, before looking for other solutions. Also, now, when looking for the containing folder for a plugin, I'm directed to the proper folder, not the Tracktion folder. Thanks so much, Dave!dRowAudio wrote: Thu Apr 23, 2020 3:58 pm Does the "Scanning and sorting" -> "Remove any plug-ins whose files no longer exist" not do what you want?
While you're here: I have duplicate entries in my plugin menu due to vst2 & Vst3 Plugins having been installed. Is the easy solution to this clicking "remove all VST3 plugins" from the Settings>Plugin tab? I've read conflicting info about VST2 v. VST3 but since you're the man, I'll take your suggestion. Alternatively, I could simply delete the VST2 .dlls from whatever folders they're in. My plugin sub-menus can be pretty massive
I can start a new thread if you feel it will serve the larger Tracktion community.
Thanks again. For the record, I really love the look/feel of WF11. I only had WF10 since Jan, and had T7 for years before that. I still have a lot to learn, but I'm seeing the huge potential in it.

It did, but not in the way I wanted. It picked up all the VST2 & VST3 plugins that previously weren't, and now I have duplicated entries for the same plugins, hence my question above, as to the best way to handle it.

There is no problem with having both the VST2 and VST3 versions in the list. By default I use VST2 in edits but keep the VST3 versions anyway, I have in the past had plugins that worked better in the VST3 version.

Yeah, that's why I'm somewhat conflicted about removing them, but some menus have over 20 entries. The Tracktion fx menu has 24 entries.operandx wrote: Thu Apr 23, 2020 7:54 pm There is no problem with having both the VST2 and VST3 versions in the list. My laptop display is super high resolution, so everything is teeny tiny. I'm basically in isolation because of the virus, and there's been a ton of sales on plugins, so I'm just spending time trying to clean things up. In the long run, it'll make for a better work flow.

Settings :: Plugins
The checkmarks in the "Show" column are for whether or not you want a plugin to show in the menus. I have un-checked most of the VST3 versions here. This way you can keep them around without cluttering the menus.

Surely there must be consensus by now...

I've tried that, and literally just tried that again, but it doesn't seem to take. If I "remove selected plugin from list," the selected plugin does disappear from the plugin menu, but, the only way for me to bring the "removed" plugin, is to do a rescan. For now, with over a hundred duplicate entries, I don't want to screw up, especially since the paths to all my plugins are all over the place. I've also tried the various Plugin Selectors, for the different menu displays.pough wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2020 3:04 am Settings :: Plugins

Waait. I just deselected "Show All Plugins," and now an unchecked plugin doesn't show up in the menu.
Thanks a lot! Seems like Dave and the other deveopers have thought of almost everything.

After hitting a large number of plugins I find it more helpful to use the custom menu feature and organize them myself. I can categorize them in a way that makes sense to me that way and don't need to rely on the way that different companies categorize their own plugins in different ways that don't always match the way that I tend to think of them... and organizing them by the "manufacturer" for purpose of the menu doesn't really help me at all. I'd rather point to "Equalizers" in my custom menu and get a list of my EQ plugins to pick from...
My top few picks of plugins I am using all the time I keep out of the submenus so I can grab them right away.

I'm like a first grader thrown into a Phd program, when it comes to home recording. That's why I'm being careful in what I'm doing, but I can see what you're getting at.
The vast majority of my home recording experience was recording my guitar through interfaces, and most effects were hardware based. So this digital recording is a whole new world for me, for the most part.
I'm sorry I didn't get into it years ago, but a whole new world has opened up for me. I have LOTS to learn. Luckily, there's plenty of helpful people here. I only wish there were more Traction tutorials. Most seem to be geared to the Ableton/FL Studios/Pro Tools crowd. For whatever reason, Tracktion/Waveform doesn't feel as daunting to me. Having the lead developer here answer almost instantaneously sure helps.
In time, I can see making a custom plugin menu- but first, I have to learn what all my plugins do, lol.

I tend to keep the menu grouped by manufacturer and use the browser for category tags like EQ. That way I can quickly get to any plugin either by the manufacturer or the category. In the end I mostly use the browser's search. It can find a plugin by plugin name or manufacturer name and the tags help to narrow things down.fde101 wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2020 1:10 pm After hitting a large number of plugins I find it more helpful to use the custom menu feature and organize them myself. The only issue I have with the browser is that there are is a cloud of tags, mostly not created by me, and the way it filters plugins/presets/loops is awkward.

For now, I have things grouped by manufacturer. Mostly because in the span of 3 months, I now have hundreds of plugins (mostly bought on sale, or in bundles), and if I have to do a clean reinstall, I'm up the creek. So I intend to do an inventory, for the inevitable day I have to reinstall on a new computer.
But I see what you're saying about tagging. Ultimately, I'd like to group things by fx, instrument, mastering, etc. I bought this on sale, and it's really great at managing all your plugins: https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/ ... 1-Standard It works in standalone, or as a vst. I bought the "plus" version for $39, and I was given a ton of fx, synths, etc, and that's when I saw all the possibilities in recording. You can create multi-instruments; mix and match as you please. I've had 10 instances of it in WF10, and it didn't crash. I created a rack (with MT Power Drums) with multi-outs on WF11, and it kept crashing. I haven't reported it yet, because I tend to have a browser with 20 tabs open all the time.
I still have a long way to go. Going from T7, to WF10/11 was a huge jump for me, but I like how you can now move different windows to a 2nd screen with WF11.
I'll likely sign up for tutorials at Groove3. I can go only so far with YT vids regarding synths especially. I'm in lockdown, so I have the time.
