Heh, if you got Sonar to work stably by keeping your system streamlined exclusively for music, more power to ya. I've used Reason, Sonar, Cubase, FL Studio, Live, and Bitwig. Only one of those DAWs crashed like a mo-fo if you even looked at it funny. Which seems more reasonable to assign fault to, a system which was otherwise stable with most 3rd-party software (music and otherwise), or the one piece of software which crashed on it consistently and frequently?digitalboytn wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2020 1:51 amI know people say that they found Sonar buggy, but that may have been a result of their overall system, rather than the individual program itself...
Anyhoo, I will check out the new version of Cakewalk sometime here, maybe things are better.
A well-behaved signature.

What type of VSTs you mean? Instruments or effects?Erisian wrote: Fri Apr 17, 2020 9:42 amI can vouch for the fact that it is neither buggy nor horrible and it comes with the option of downloading some of the best free vst instruments I have seen. If you have bandlab, try downloading the optional studio instruments and even if you don't get along with Cakewalk, you can use them in another DAW. Personally I think Cakewalk is pretty awesome.robotmonkey wrote: Fri Apr 17, 2020 4:18 amI highly doubt their codebase is solid and no-frills. With so much legacy and considering how buggy Cakewalk has historically been, it's still probably horrible. It will take them a lot more time to fix it.

Don't think beatscape is part of Cakewalk, but some other instruments.jaybanon wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2020 11:08 am big fan of cake walk stock vst "beatscape" looking to get it. If someone can dm or drop a pc installer link![]()

FWIW, Cubase got a rewrite in 2002.robotmonkey wrote: Wed Apr 15, 2020 7:48 am That's why I can't stand Cubase at all. It's 1990's legacy is just so much showing in its interface.

I thought it felt loaded with legacy in version 4/4.5 which was well after that. Menu organization, concepts...cptgone wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2020 12:16 pmFWIW, Cubase got a rewrite in 2002.robotmonkey wrote: Wed Apr 15, 2020 7:48 am That's why I can't stand Cubase at all. Edit: since this is a Cakewalk thread: I felt Sonar was loaded with legacy from the Win16 API, as with so much Windows software. By the time they re-dressed it in the Sonar X-series, that legacy shifted a bit to being the ugly parts of the Win32 legacy, still peaking out between the modern bits... I was already moving to a different OS at the time, since I identified the OS (and its own legacy) as the biggest part of what I disliked overall. Microsoft still hasn’t improved things much.

Yeah, I know, but when I tried it again couple of years back, it still felt like Cubase VST 3.5 or 5 from the old days. And it could not even launch on Win 7 with the classic skin on, which felt totally retarded.cptgone wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2020 12:16 pmFWIW, Cubase got a rewrite in 2002.robotmonkey wrote: Wed Apr 15, 2020 7:48 am That's why I can't stand Cubase at all. I thought Beatscape had a lot of potential. Too bad Cakewalk never developed it further. They kinda did the same with Cyclone. I'll check if I have any of my old Sonar install discs that may have it. I think the last few updates were all discless.jaybanon wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2020 11:08 am big fan of cake walk stock vst "beatscape" looking to get it. Tried using a cakewalk plugin (CA2A) today, that I probably haven't used in about 4 years. It just took down Cubase. Might just uninstall that one then.
