recording stopped working for one project

Hello: I'm relatively new to Tracktion T7. I was working on recording drum tracks for a project today. I started to record a new track, and all of a sudden T7 was not saving any audio for an armed track with a functioning input. I can switch to a different project, and everything works as expected again. But when I go back to the project that I want to record to right now, my attempts to add new audio are not working.

Can anyone help? I'm guessing that I've accidentally done something that can be corrected easily, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. -Mark

Rebooting and restarting T7 makes no difference. Something specific to this project is going on, and I can't figure it out!

File/folder permissions? The Recorded folder moved to a different location by mistake?
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Nothing changed from what I can see. I actively recorded a couple of takes that worked, deleted one that didn't, and went to record some more. That's when I noticed that my new takes weren't producing waves. Very frustrated! It's sort of like a new track doesn't have a default clip in it, it something like that.

You on Windows? You running T7 as administrator?

Wild assed guess.

Yes to both.

One moment everything was fine. Next thing I knew the tracks weren't recording on that one single edit. I've since had no problems working on a different edit, but for the life of me, I can't figure outr what I may have accidentally done here.

Another wild assed guess: check your audio settings for that problem edit. This used to happen to me so frequently, I'd check my audio settings first.

Click on the input device icon and let us know what it says in the "Filename:" field. It should say "%projectdir%/%edit%_%track%_Take_%take%".
If not, maybe press the "Reset filename" button?

The Filename information looks correct: It shows "%projectdir%\%edit%_%track%_Take_%take%". That slash is different than what you suggested, but it's also like that for other edits that seem to be just fine right now.

The audio settings seem to be fine. It's working for other edits/songs that I'm working on, just not the one that I want to work on right now.

I can create a new track, select and monitor an input source, and arm the track. But when I push the record button, nothing is saved and no wave shows up in the track window. It's almost like the shell of a track was created, but the object to hold a wave inside the track doesn't exist.

Can you select the input device and ensue that the "Trigger Level" is set to the lowest ("-Inf") setting?
If this is higher, it could be that the audio level just hasn't reached the required level to trigger the recording.

I figured it out. I somehow accidentally had pushed the "Punch" button. I still don't know what that does (I'm new to all of this), but I'm back on track now.

Rookie mistake, but I'm learning. Thanks for all of your help!

This is where a screen capture or video would have really helped.

Punch sets it to record only between the in and out markers.
Surely there must be consensus by now...
