Please PM me your account email and tell me a JRR Sounds product you're interested in, I'll send it to you for free:11USD is around 17 Canadian(paypal rates). That's the average wage for an hour of work so it's not really just a small amount to everyone.

Both have been very popular. The Hollywood series is excellent....and to keep things less ranty here's a deal conversation topic: Has anyone bought anything from the Eastwest sale? 60% off seems pretty decent. I've been wanting to try out Symphonic Choirs for a long time now so I finally got it. I'm tempted on hollywood choirs but I'll pass on it for now until the next sale.
I knew I was using JRR for a good reason, I might take you up on that offer I've actually been sorta looking at the JD-890 sample sets and wouldn't mind using them with Iris!
As always gotta keep the discussion going: Heavyocity Novo Essentials... Is it worth buying or do they do sales on the full version regularly?

f**k fxpansion.
they charge ridiculous 45$ per license transfer, then dump their prices to 99$ every f**king month.
The only way you can sell an fxpansion synth is if you give it away for free or charge 10$ or something like that.
PA is the same. f**k that really

The general recommendation for a MacBook has always been buy as much as you can afford. That is still true. But I think the non-upgradeable RAM/disk is a non-issue in the SSD era. I have two MacBook Pros, a 2010 and a 2013, that are both going strong. I have never had a Windows-based machine ever last that long. The Apple hardware is worth the cost, especially if you buy last year's model that you can always find somewhere WAY cheaper.
People also complain about the cost of the 5K iMac which is ridiculous. A 5K monitor the quality of whats on the iMac is very expensive. In the case of the iMac which does have upgradeable memory its worth buying 8gb (I think thats the lowest) and buying the memory upgrade yourself. But again, you get what you pay for.

What is ridiculous though is the $999 monitor stand or the $699 wheels....rezoneight wrote: Fri May 01, 2020 7:24 pm The general recommendation for a MacBook has always been buy as much as you can afford. Completely agree with you but a Mac Pro is not in my future, well, ever so that's not a concernVleker wrote: Fri May 01, 2020 7:36 pm What is ridiculous though is the $999 monitor stand or the $699 wheels....![]()
But yeah if you have enough money Apple is a plug and play system and it will probably serve you well. Under $1500 you're better off building your own machine though (or hackintosh) which you can continue upgrading. One of the bigger benefits that Apple has over android and windows is the midi over Bluetooth. I want to get a Roli in the future and they are great, but they work better with Apple products
I wouldn't ever build and run a Hackintosh. Too much fiddling. I bought a 27" 5k iMac on sale from BH Photo last year. I bought the top-end i9 model with 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD for $2499. A 5K monitor this size with the same quality is a big chunk of that price all on its own. I added 32GB of RAM on my own for like $200. This machine screams and will last for years. I have no need to upgrade it. Can add (and have) more storage via Thunderbolt 3 if required. Best computer purchase I've ever made.

Cool story. I am still using a Lenovo T420 which came out in 2011. Upgraded the memory to 8GB and dropped in an SSD. Still running strong on the latest version of Windows 10. My 2011 MacBook Pro? Can't upgrade past High Sierra.rezoneight wrote: Fri May 01, 2020 7:24 pm The general recommendation for a MacBook has always been buy as much as you can afford. That is still true. Problem is anecdotal evidence is worthless. I have seen PC laptops last a long time and Macs die long before their time. Wish we could put this Mac vrs PC to rest.

You are forgetting the real reason Mac and PCs exist: It is because it is sooooo much fun for developers to work on both platforms. Instead of building twice as many plugins, or fixing twice as many bugs, or making my plugins twice as better, I get the pleasure of slowing doing and cursing a lot more.

I use Macs and PCs equally often and feel compelled to throw either one out of the window on a fairly regular basis. But this is not the topic of this forum thread. Go elsewhere, please.

And yes some Macs do die before their time. I had one that had an issue with the nvidia graphics (this was a well-known issue on that model) that died. It was the reason I bought the 2010. But in 10 years all of these machines are going strong. Not saying this is impossible in the Windows/PC world, just saying you get what you pay for.
As to the OS thing...yeah shit happens. I don't expect Apple to support their hardware forever. In some cases there are hacks available to get around some of that stuff. Its an imperfect world we live in
