Thanks, but my question was not essential vs advanced. I have essential and I know that I want to upgrade. The question is standard or advanced.

As a relative newb still trying to train my ears, I find Tonal Balance Control almost essential.
When mastering, you can at least see all the basic elements of your mix are in the right ball park.

I'm still on Ozone 5. Not sure what's different about 9, but 9 Advanced for $99 sounds semi-enticing.

The tonal balance plugin which is only available with Advanced seems to be getting some praise, but I wonder, why do I need it, if Ozone Standard already has Track Referencing, Reference Target in Master Assistant and Match EQ?
Well, the simple answer is: Tonal Balance allows you an additional tool to sculpt your master using a visual cue. Do you need it? Well, Ozone didn’t have the tool until version 8, and it was still the most popular mastering suite in the industry. It’s just a new tool that helps you. Whether you need it or not is entirely up to you.

Theres a wealth of formulated garbage gangstars on the music billboards too that are popular. Lawn darts, for a time, were splendidly popular. In some cultures, shooting your firearms in the air as a form of celebration is popular. Getting within inches of speeding Rally cars is popular in some locations.

I agree its a personal choice. 6 months ago I'd have been all over this. After some introspection, I'm not sure Ozone is really necessary or even helpful in the ways considered. If your mix isn't 95% or more there by the time you get it into Ozone, it probably needs more work in mix phase and less 'sculpting' in mastering.

Again, it is easy to throw money at your problems, but is it really going to resolve them or just create further side issues if you're serious about your craft? Masking flaws that should be resolved in mixing later while in mastering phase is not a bright idea to me.. otherwise you're just polishing a turd.

If it actually benefits you in healthy ways, then by all means. If you're buying because its popular and everyone else is doing it, or because you have significant flaws in mix then maybe don't buy it. IMO -- A different PoV to consider at least.

Haven't bought anything from the current biggest sales, hope to keep it that way, music comes first anyway

No, Ozone 5 Standard.

Pretty sure you have to have a previous version advanced in order to upgrade to 9 advanced for $99. Might be wrong though. Either way, the value you get going from 5 to 9 Advanced is incredible.

His POV isn’t just “different”, it’s misplaced. When I said Ozone was one of the most popular out there, I meant that as a pro studio staple. . Equating shitty music, lawn darts, and other frivolous things was cute, but completely unrelated.

This is a special sale. In fact, I have the option of upgrading to Standard for $99 or Advanced for $99 haha. Since I'm so far behind, I'm going to have to look up what they introduced in 6, 7, 8, and now 9.

Well, that was a different kind of answer than I had expected. It's valuable nevertheless. So, what happened 6 months ago?

I don't produce music professionally (probably not even semi-professionally) so I admit that spending $200 on mixing and mastering plugins might not be a rational decision but rather GAS.

And you are right, the overall sound could benefit from a better mix. So what I think could really help are the un-masking features in neutron standard.
With the current deals the cheapest way for me to get there is the tonal balance Crossgrade, although Neutron standard (and maybe ozone standard for the match eq) should be enough for me.
