I don't think it works that way. There are plugins that work for me that don't work for others. There are plugins that work for others that don't work for me. There are plugins where the VST 2 version works fine and the VST3 version does not. There are plugins that work in FL Studio but not in Waveform or StudioOne.

I have been using Kontakt with Waveform since way back before it was called Waveform. I also have Guitar Rig and Massive but use them less frequently. No problems lately. Kontakt used to be flaky a long time ago. I can't even remember when. Maybe Tracktion 4 or 5?

What I do have problems with is a VST called Tines. It kills Waveform, among other DAWs. The developer updated it for me and that worked. For about 4 hours, then it went back to crashing. Someone at TSC suggested it might be conflicting with my antivirus so I configured my antivirus to ignore it. That worked! For about 4 days, then it went back to crashing. My friend also has it and he has experienced exactly zero problems.

Software is complicated. For every universally problematic plugin there are dozens that only cause trouble on one or two computers. Waveform and PluginX are not working together in a vacuum.

I will say this, though: Waveform 11 has been the most enjoyable music-making experience I've had in a very, very long time. It's more stable (for me) and powerful than anything I've used before.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Concurring with most that stability isn't an exact science since there are so many differences in our systems. I've been using Tracktion/Waveform since version 1, and I've had periods where it was basically unusable on my setup, but also periods where I went months without a crash. Currently Waveform 11 is FAR more stable than anything else I'm using: sandboxing is a gift from above, being able to test plugins in PluginVal is super useful to weed out the worst offenders, and I think the auto error reporting is doing good things behind the scenes.

I have have a bunch of other product where the maker have lists of what other products they have tested for compatibily where it is easy to read what they support and not. Not be nice if Tracktion had the same list. It is good if there is a trial version too, but it would be good to know what to expect before testing and not waste time on testing stuff that is known not to work. I posted a few crash-reports back win my purchase of WF8 and if I remember correctly the answer was something like "It is possible that those plugins does not work cause they were built badly by the maker of the VST". So I dropped it then. But the situation might have changed now.

GearNostalgia wrote: Thu May 07, 2020 3:44 am So I have been checking this thread to see if Waveform gets better and worth an upgrade, but as I follow this thread it seems not. Is there a list of plugins that are reliable or unstabile in the most current version? Some are dealbreakers for me other not.
The internet contains countless thousands of threads where a few people moan about some DAW or other being unstable because they've had a bad experience with it. But they tell you nothing about that DAW's real stability, because you only hear the bad stuff. There could 10 million happy silent users and 2 grumbling ones who got unlucky. Or the DAW could indeed be rubbish and the grumbling users could be a representative sample. There's no way to know.

You realise we now offer a free version of the latest version, right? Nobody on this thread or anywhere else can tell you whether your dealbreaker plugins will work OK, but it'd take you 10 minutes to download the free version and try for yourself. And if there's a problem, you can let us know so we can fix it.

Looks like they have something like that in progress.

Downloaded the trial for WF11 yesterday and it is better than WF8. The main thing that annoys me is that is send dialogues of Kontakt and some other VST behind other software and they can not be brought to front without using "show windows side by side" in windows10. Pretty annoying to have to rearrange the setup every time I have to answer a "Yes or No" question for loading something. But beside that it seems to run better.

Especially since the virus shutdown, I've acquired tons of plugins- Positive Grid, Toontrack, NI, Waves, Izotope, Arturia, Air Music, W.A. Productions, Akai, freebies from lesser known companies, and probably a a dozen more. I've stress tested WF 10 & 11 by loading as many plugins as possible. The only time I've had a crash was when I created a multi out drum rack with MT Power Drums, but I had a browser windows open, with about 20 tabs. Before the most recent update, WF 11 sometimes froze. Overall, WF 10/11 has been really solid for me.

Maybe your system has a resource problem? I run Win 10, i7 8 cores, and 16 gigs ram with a SSD drive.

The only real problems I may have is UI scaling, but I don't think that's the fault of Tracktion. My laptop monitor is 4k, and I extend to an old monitor. Reducing the resolution had helped. Going all the way back to around T4, Guitar Rig worked fine on my crappy little netbook.
What's the specs of your PC?

Post

Thank you for asking, but PC specs really is not the issue here cause things run just fine in Cubase9. I did some tests yesterday and most things run better in WF11 than WF9. But some things does not load anymore Expert Sleepers Silentway seems dead now and used to load in WF9. But in general it seems to have improoved.
