I bought Icarus 2 after I saw Markus' post. I have a lot of respect for anyone who screws up, owns up to it, and publicly resolves to do better. Not the least because I have been that person before. Let him that is without sin…

You should probably lock the thread by now. You got your message out there, it was gracefully accepted by most, and the thread is becoming a dumpster fire.Markus Krause wrote: Thu May 07, 2020 2:10 pm Sorry Hink for my critics.
but you are the moderator of kvr and responsible for the content. I don't think you should blame your users if you get a negative ranking on google.

Reading over this thread on my lunch break:
I'm curious why you all are hounding Tone2 over word choice. I'm all for getting a clear answer on the future of products I purchased, but I don't understand picking apart every word. Implicature and presuppositions are part of everyday language to some degree. It's pretty clear Tone2 has not sued anyone for piracy yet, but reserves the possibility. Which makes sense, a deterrent. Tone2's responses are not concealed behind a political shroud like you might find from larger companies, it's just one person being frank in their answers in their own style. In my experience, Tone2 is good people. To face the truth you sometimes need to get out of your own way and part with your biases. I don't know of a single developer here who has not been infuriated by people stealing their hard work and well deserved earnings. Many of your favorite plugins from many developers here have/had far more sinister copy protection measures, yet I don't see many threads on it.
If you attack someone who makes themselves honest and vulnerable, it will discourage others from stepping up and following. Think.
Please stop the foolishness.

Right. Generalizing everyone's advice as "foolishness" is not helpful, it's just needlessly throwing insults at people.vurt wrote: Thu May 07, 2020 6:07 pm not attacking, offering advice.

This is why.claudedefaren wrote: Mon May 04, 2020 3:15 pmWhoa hold on, this was a good thread for you but don't spoil it by deflecting blame against other companies. Tracking cookies are not evil. I can help you get set up with a Facebook pixel and a proven remarketing strategy that will multiply the rate of growth for your business. Your customers can use Firefox or Brave if they don't want to consent to such cookies. Google and Facebook has their information already anyway.Markus Krause wrote: Mon May 04, 2020 2:48 pm You shoukld note that our protection is now the same as U-he. But unlike u-he we never used tracking cookies to analyze our customer's shopping behaviour and we do not send the data to google analytics.

He was honest and vulnerable at the START of the thread, but he quickly shifted to reveal different aspects of character as it continued.
His continued allusions to other companies (which are not at all relevant to the discussion of his company now vs his company before) utilized as methods of deflection and whataboutism absolutely warrant distrust. These allusions of his convey neither honesty nor vulnerability/humility.
Scrutiny of word choice and the implications thereof is NOT the same thing as attacking someone. Don't gaslight. These things are important.
If you think there aren't threads on other companies' copy-protection fiascos, then ha! You are indeed the foolish one here.

But he didn't mention any other companies. He just mentioned the practice and claimed that Tone2 does not engage in such practices.claudedefaren wrote: Thu May 07, 2020 5:33 pmThere is definitely some douchey practices by other companies out there.robotmonkey wrote: Thu May 07, 2020 5:27 pmIf this is indeed true, then it is very appropriate to point it out. Q: Do you sue people who use pirated copies?
A: We do not monitor the file-sharing in the torrent networks. We never sent out written-warnings by lawyers. We never sued anyone.

But they are absolutely not relevant in this thread.
This thread isn't about Markus vs other companies.
This thread is about New Markus vs Old Markus.
Beside the u-he no other companies have been mentioned in this thread to my knowledge.

Yes, he does mention other companies, period. He literally said "other companies." He only chose to mention u-he by name, but just because he did not use the specific names of any others doesn't mean he isn't doing exactly you claim he hasn't done.robotmonkey wrote: Thu May 07, 2020 6:16 pmBut he didn't mention any other companies. If I am in a group interview, and I boast that I am an "honest, hardworking person, unlike SOME people..." — I am referring to other people. Period. It's a very bad look.
More to the point, why did you respond to that particular post of mine? Your reply has little to do with the point I was making: such comparisons are not relevant in this thread, which is a thread for Markus to apologize for his past actions and show that he is trustworthy.

Look it's very simple. Don't put your Hatred of Pirates over your Love for your Paying Customers.
Don't put your customer's systems at risk to protect your intellectual property. Try to be as unintrusive with your Copy Protection scheme as possible.
Most of us have never been Pirates and never will be. But we understand they exist and there is a need to protect intellectual property (even though the IP we create with your software can't be protected in a similar manner).
But we are also keen to protect our DAWs since again most of us put a lot of work into setting them up and keeping them as lean as possible to squeeze every bit of performance out of them as possible.
So any software that may put our DAWs at risk or have a negative impact on performance is obviously undesirable.
So try to strike a balance between protecting your IP and ultimately your company and protecting the systems of your paying customers.
That's all we can ask.
Not aimed at Tone 2 but all developers.
You respect us, we'll support you......

This mess over single words and who is right and has the longest knob shall stop. It's unworthy for a professional network / forum.
