"None of these" DAWs is winning by a substantial amount over the top two so obviously the Poll is incomplete. (32.6% for None as opposed to Abelton Live at 17.7% at the time of this post).

I'm also embarrassed and ashamed at the number of people who have admitted to using cracked software (I never have nor never will).

It kind of makes the whole "we don't need no copy protection" argument hard to justify.

I think devs need copy protection.

No contradiction there for me.

That was my whole point. With such a large percentage of people admitting to being pirates the argument that Devs don't need copy protection is hard to support.

Of course Devs need copy protection. The Poll results do nothing but confirm that fact.

On the contrary, it just shows how pointless CP is. It's better for devs to focus on other things.

Despite hearing all this whining about piracy all those years I have yet to see a company to go under because of that. For example, Fruityloops is probably the most pirated piece of music software ever, yet IL seems to be doing just fine. And they have no CP whatsoever.
