I read in a web search that someone had rigged MODO Bass to work with an MPE controller like the Roi Seaboard (Blocks or Rise). Would having that arrangement be the key for realism with it? I haven't demoed it yet, but I should have it soon as part of TS2 MAX.

The key to playability sounding real is in the performance. Programming your midi bass notes without fine attention to each dynamic note and each note length too will result in obvious shortcomings. Thats where I think EZBass will have a clear edge, real performances and enough articulations built in to the performance to capture as much of the player feel as possible. Thats where Modo Bass cant compete.
The one great thing about Modo Bass that was a game changer for me in shaping tone was simply moving around the playing location position as well as moving the pickups across the bass, try dragging the pickups and the yellow pick symbol across the bass and you'll see how it very effectively opens up new tone possibilities that very quickly can make you realize what wasnt working in your tone and where you really want your tone to go.

MODO bass is my GOTO bass. I also like the fact that you can change sounds and articulations easily. I actually perform all my parts, so I'm not interested in the MIDI programming in something like EZBass. But MODO really covers a lot of ground. It's like a bass guitar museum.monomox wrote: Sat May 09, 2020 8:50 pm for me, the advantage of MODO Bass is that you can experiment with different tones quickly and easily. You can switch from one tone to the other fast, within the same plugin, keep the articulations, etc. Go from finger style to slap to pick, from active to passive, etc etc. Also, my libraries are not as diverse as the tones in MB. I don't think it sounds realistic enough in certain circumstances, but part of that is my lack of skill. It's definitely my first choice, but depending on where the song goes, I may switch to samples. Just saying, to each its own.
BTW, a close second for me are the basses included in Sampletank 4 Max (I'm not sure if these are all included in other versions of Sampletank 4). They are pretty killer, but Sampletank is no longer a "light" program, so while my results might be similar, MODO is much easier to load and use and tweak.
Also, a bonus in Sampletank are the included bass MIDI files if you're into that sort of thing. I check them out from time to time for inspiration.
Cheers

I have three options currently.
It used to be a toss up between MODO bass and Trilian with Trilian as my go-to for upright/acoustic bass and Precision electric, MODO's great for actually building a completely new bass sound and swapping the strings from round to flatwound is a tiny bit quicker than on my real bass
Then a couple of months ago I bought the new version 2 of the UJAM virtual bassist bundle and that really put the cat amongst the pigeons as you get a lot of the capabilities of both Trilian and MODO, but with the addition of new functionality around preset phrases you can incorporate into your MIDI.
I've decided already I'm going to get EZBass and live with it a while and then sell off the 2 out of the 4 I think I'll use the least.

I haven't participated in the group buys before but was planning on doing so this year if Modo was part of it. But since IK can't give a straight answer on whether or not second hand plugin sales become NFR and users are reporting this is the case when they follow the official procedure it's fallen out of consideration for me.telecode wrote: Sat May 09, 2020 12:31 pm Oh man. i really hope this years IKM group buy doesn't focus on the MODO *.* product lines.![]()

How can group buy focus on MODO though, it's only 2 products?yellowmix wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 2:36 amI haven't participated in the group buys before but was planning on doing so this year if Modo was part of it. In last year's group buy it was clear that you couldn't sell individually redeemed products, you could only sell the original one you bought to enter the group buy and if you sold that one you'd lose ALL the redeemed ones and the buyer wouldn't get any of them.yellowmix wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 2:36 amI haven't participated in the group buys before but was planning on doing so this year if Modo was part of it. The group buy certainly aint for those hoping to resell. Its excellent value though, even if you end up using just 2.

frankly if you play the seaboard well, you can probably play bass. Get a bass for 100$, it's well worth learning to play bass not only from perspective of tracking your bass, but from perspective of understanding the rhythm section.Blue Phase Music wrote: Sat May 09, 2020 9:01 pm I read in a web search that someone had rigged MODO Bass to work with an MPE controller like the Roi Seaboard (Blocks or Rise). It was of my understanding that I was able to sell the item which led metto enter the group buy and still retain the free items. I double checked in other forum and I got confirmation, but not official nor from Peter.Insanelysane wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 3:30 amyellowmix wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 2:36 amIn last year's group buy it was clear that you couldn't sell individually redeemed products, you could only sell the original one you bought to enter the group buy and if you sold that one you'd lose ALL the redeemed ones and the buyer wouldn't get any of them.telecode wrote: Sat May 09, 2020 12:31 pm Oh man. i really hope this years IKM group buy doesn't focus on the MODO *.* product lines.![]()

Obviously you can't sell the items you got free from the Group Buy, that would be plain robbery.
But a part from the GB, you can def sell your items and they don't became NFR until you transfer it several times. In my experience, I've bought Fender 1, 4 years ago here in the second hand forum and I sold it last week without problems.
The NFR thingy only goes for GB items and things you bought wiht the jam points

I 'did my research' as the conspiracy theorists say when they google a subject lazily for 5 minutes and it seems the general consensus on bx_rooms on t'internets is it's pretty nondescript and way down the ladder from the likes of Verberate, Eareverb etc.
Edit:
Changing tack, this year's Orange Tree Samples group buy should be around in the next month or two. Could anyone provide a link that spells out exactly how it worked before because the link on the OTS site is currently dead (for obvious reasons)?
nvm, I found the cached version. Seems to suggest the all guitar bundle is in reach I'd better get a new SSD.

Wonder how spitfire people are going to send me that library since they never asked my email..
I filled that survey. I'm a bit ashamed about the last question I answered.. "What does bbc mean to you"

good research, can you do a video with chopin playing underneath and horrible up-close sound with clipping and a lot of pops?WatchTheGuitar wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 11:43 am I 'did my research' as the conspiracy theorists say when they google a subject lazily for 5 minutes and it seems the general consensus on bx_rooms on t'internets is it's pretty nondescript and way down the ladder from the likes of Verberate, Eareverb etc.
yeah apparently it sounds "metallic". Fanboys call it "a good sound design tool", people who know DSP know that "metallic" is the first quality out of a non-refined reverb.
