[resolved] Losing projects and settings constantly!

So what's going on here? Every second or third time I open Tracktion I lose all my projects and settings which means I need to reopen the projects one by one, re adjust all the setting and rescan the entire VST folder (which BTW takes much longer than I think it should). Everything else on my computer is running properly, I haven't installed any funny software lately (except Firefox…. hmmmm….) so WTF is happening? Please help me!

Sounds like it can't write to its settings file, which will be stored in your user directory.. maybe you've changed some permissions on there, or the disk's full, perhaps? Or something's clearing out all your settings files occasionally?

Jules' answer is correct though... (don't know why but he seems to know Tracktion rather good

I was just about to ask this same question.
I started having issues when I put XPsp2 on - it seems that every time I start Tracktion, it now tries to rescan my VST directory for changes. And as I have a boat load of them (800-ish), it takes quite a while. And I've tried to re-check and then un-check the "rescan for new plugs at startup" checky-boxy-thingy to no avail.
And the Registry settings for Tracktion all say "don't use the registry, you fool". Or something to that effect.
I haven't re-installed yet - will I need my software dongle-license-key again (provided I remember where it is)?
Or can I just delete the user settings file? It isn't maybe like, you know, tied to the XP username, is it? I mean, it's not the same as my XP username, so, should it be?

Yeah.... Other hosts don't do that, they just don't take so long. But then again, Tracktion doesn't crash as much as other hosts.... hmmmm....brewt wrote:And as I have a boat load of them [VST's] (800-ish), it takes quite a while.

Glad you got it working. Reinstalling tracktion actually doesn't do much, and it's quicker just to zap the settings file if you think it's got corrupted somehow.
I've not tried SP2 myself yet because my PC keeps downloading it, trying to install it, crashing, then starting to download it again... (nice one, MS). Could be that its new security "features" change some permissions in your user directory that could be getting in the way of tracktion saving its settings.
