Shure, I agree 100% But that does not mean I would not love to have a sampler in tracktion UIAD80 wrote:If I wanted my host to provide all my instruments for me I would have gotten a virtual studio (Reason, Orion, FL). I think any instrument in Tracktion is a huge bonus but should be low priority compared to the sequencer itself. Theres way too many freebies and cheap alternatives out there already. It would be redundant and slows down development of more important features.
Also, all the major samplers are cross platform. Mach-5 even came out for the Mac months before it did for the PC. So there ARE options. You guys dont depend on Jules for plug-ins.
Jules has stated on the company page that there are other produckts to come from raw material later

I've had a bit of trouble with DFD and some soundfonts where when rendering the timing would be way off, but if you load it into ram for rendering it works fine. The problem is, when I try to load NS_Kit into ram it keeps on saying there's not enough memory, which led me to the discovery that I only had like 600 megs of ram. I could have sworn that there was at least a gigs worth, so I'm guessing the computer's not recognising the extra ram. Anyone know why this would be?Lunch Money wrote:Gotta agree... that's worth looking into. DFD on sfz is working like a charm for me.

Definitely. It would be great to have a Tracktion-like sampler. Maybe we can get Amoeba or Pough to re-skin an existing sampler to look like TracktionSleepwalker wrote:

And yes I'm aware that Jules is probably working on other projects other than T. But I doubt he's working on his own plug-in line. Who knows tho! I guess we will SOON find out what he's been up to when T2 is released in 2007.

Sorry, I've been busy and didn't get to check the thread again until this morning.
Cost of a mac....then someone said "maybe if you didn't spend so much on the mac you could afford plugs" or something to that effect.
You know, it's just plain funny. I guess some myths never die. I use a 6 year old powerbook that I purchased used for less than a comparable pc 3 years ago. The cost of owning and maintaining a mac are not greater than a pc. In fact, they are less. I should know. I actually support my family as an artist. Simply put, I can't afford new hardware and macs are the best USED hardware at any price point. My powerbook is very dependable and, being a wallstreet, easy to service/expand.
So there
Back to the sampler subject. I never said Jules should include free versions of every plug out there. I did say that mac users have fewer choices. The feature requests for Tracktion's sampler go back at least a year. Jules and everyone who has read this thread know what they are and most everyone agrees on what should be added. So what's the problem?
Oh, I get it. Some users don't want to lose one day of development to another platform. Is that it? It is, isn't it? Full speed ahead. Maybe we should start dividing musical categories in record stores too? Say, different bins for "pc made music" and "mac made music". How ridiculous. None of us will even be using the same hardware/software platform in 10 years. I don't discriminate against recordings because of the tape stock they used. "I can really hear the 3m on that one!"
We had a cartoon on the fridge for a long time. Gosh, I wish I could remember it exactly. It went something along the lines of slamming the internet for labeling all existing creative output as "new content" because the distribution was new. That's all we have here. Just dumb computers that can't do sqat unless we can type a little. It's nothing more than a historical footnote.

But did you bother to look at Computer Music's DS404
I think we all want equal development for both Mac and PC, it's just some want more time spent on features and others want more time spent on Tracktion itself.
Personaly I would rather see the Midi sequencing take priority over the sampler because I have a free sampler that I can use, the DS404, did I mention that already?
I would LOVE native support for Midi FX like my Slicy Drummer, and I know other do too... but I'd rather see Tracktion rock solid for everyone first.

It sounds like we have the same problem.
I want to be able to PLAY the sfz, in real time, with the ns piano font. No luck.
I know I need more RAM (256 MB on Win98SE), but I don't know if it will truly fix my problem.
I'm thinking it might be more of a balancing act between virutal RAM, real RAM, read-ahead-optimization, blah blah blah.
If I knew that I could put another 1GB PC133 DIMM in (if I can find it cheaper than upgrading to a new PC altogether) and that it would solve this problem, I would probably go ahead.
However, those Dell end of quarter/year deals are kind of hard to pass up

I just checked the DS404. Mac support doesn't include ANY version of OSX.
Thanks for the tip though. It looks like an exellent product for those who can use it.

Here is a Quote from Dave who wrote the CM101, 202, 303, 505 and 404:
"I second the Tracktion recommendation. It is an excellent piece of software and runs VST plugins on OSX like a charm. "

Uh, did you load it in by hand or is there a patch released that I missed?jtxx000 wrote:DS404's not bad, but when I loaded up NS_Kit in it, it sounded a bit different than the soundfont. I think it's just velocity mapped differently though.

There's a patch released that you missed. Good luck downloading it from CM's ftp server though, their server is SHIT. The link to the patch area from the website doesn't even work because they use the wrong case on the word "pub" in the link.
If you want a copy, try getting it here
ftp://ftp.futurenet.co.uk/pub/computerm ... %20ns_kit/
I'd use a download resume program of some sorts, as their server regularly bombs out downloading anything bigger than about 3k. And the big patch is 127meg.
There is no need for a tracktion sampler upgrade, there are other free options for the mac. People just don't want to use them, or have underspecced machines that stuggle to load 2-300meg patches, that's the problem.
There is, however, a big need for better midi editting and various other bits and bobs

OK,
I think I nailed down what was causing me grief with various modes of sfz:
AVG anti virus.
Here was the trail I chased:
1. Turned off AVG before launching T. I have noticed in the last couple of weeks since I started using AVG, that it causes T to take a very long time to scan plugin directories- watching the systray clock it was taking over a minute, whereas in the past, I would get through the scan in 5-10 seconds max.
Result after turning off AVG - still a noticeable latency.
2. I thought maybe read-ahead optimization was causing the trouble. I get conflicting information on whether I should have this enabled or not. I'm on Win98SE. So, I disabled it.
Result, still the latency
3. So then I thought, well I'm going to try to load it direct, instead of DFD.
Result - famous error message for the memory limitation
4. Launched the memory defragmenter software that sfz recommends. launched T to see how much free memory I had, something like 64 MB left over - not much. Ran the memory 'clean' function of memory defragmenter, and got back about 70 MB, for a total of 134 MB.
Result, ns piano loads fine in non DFD, PR16 mode!!!!
I think AVG, even though I disabled it before launching T, stays resident in memory, since there were no other processes that had defragmented the memory.
Now that I finally have it running, the ns piano sf isn't as impressive as the drum kit lite - drum kit has many more velocity layers, so it sounds to me.
