Thanks for clearing that up. What I find fascinating as I read more about this is how influential Randy Ubillos was, behind both Macromedia Final Cut *and* Adobe Premiere. So, Apple acquires the initial Final Cut source code, he leaves Adobe, and then joins Apple to release FCP, iMovie and even the ground-up overhauled FCPX.
Logic Pro 10.5 is out!

They don't use the CPU, they use the GPU, which is what it's there for. You have now incredibly powerful GPUs in your display cards, capable of incredibly fast 3D render, and you think they can't deal with some trivial tasks as render properly and fast enough some slightly 3D graphic elements?jonljacobi wrote: Tue May 12, 2020 10:14 pmI agree, however, the more complicated the elements, the more difficult it is, the slower it is, and the more CPU it uses. I'm not a real fan of skeuomorphism unless it's recreating original hardware, and even then I can live without it if it sounds good.fmr wrote: Tue May 12, 2020 7:45 pm Many vendors have scaling/resizing, even vector based, without having to be minimalistic flat. No, this has to do with the stupid trend of making everything like the smartphone GUIs.

Some trivial may be, but the really powerful M4L devices? Good luck trying to find replacements for them. Do you "actually" know what M4L (Max for Live) is? Do you know Max?antic604 wrote: Wed May 13, 2020 8:35 am You realize not everyone uses M4L to build their own devices or make audio-visual shows? Most just use it to run 3rd party devices that someone else made that fill in the gaps in Live's feature-set. Lots of those devices are easy to replace either by native DAW's functionality or plugins.

No, I don't. But I'm replying to a question "how Logic replaces Max" and that question implies that everyone use Max in the same way, which is simply not true. For one person, Bitwig's modulators or Logic's Modulator MIDI FX might cover 99% of their needs because all they require is LFO, Shaper and Env. Follower. For others there's no alternative to Max/M4L, even with Grid, NI Reaktor, MUX, etc. Likewise not everyone needs all the Isotonic Studios enhancements to use Session View; basic features cover most users' needs.fmr wrote: Wed May 13, 2020 9:03 amSome trivial may be, but the really powerful M4L devices? So I get all of that, but if someone says "Logic 10.5 replaced Live+Max for me", then it means they were only using a fraction - or "trivial", to borrow your words - of its features. That's why I don't get why it's even questioned?

Most DAWs still use CPUs for bulk of their rendering, though. It's only in the last 1-2 years we're seeing trend of moving to the GPU and Logic can easily lead here, because they have to worry about handful of hardware configs and one OS.fmr wrote: Wed May 13, 2020 8:58 amThey don't use the CPU, they use the GPU, which is what it's there for. All my Steinberg plugs are working fine (HALion, Padshop, Groove Agent), I use an e-Licenser dongle, are you maybe using soft licenses (with no dongle involved)?alonl6 wrote: Wed May 13, 2020 9:24 am Nice update. I really like Logic. Anyways..

I think magnetic timeline is amazing and makes FCPX different in a good way in the sea of video NLEs.

Sorry Master, I just wanted to be like you. Next time I will do what you say and I'll stop trying to be moralist ...and go on with my day !cantaloupe wrote: Wed May 13, 2020 8:57 amJolaff wrote: Tue May 12, 2020 11:12 pm Do you think it's pure generosity coming from deep love they have for you ?

Generous - Larger or more plentiful than is usual or necessary
Generous - Giving more than is expected (relative to other DAWs)
Stop projecting your elementary school moralist spin onto others
If there are multiple interpretations, just assume the most reasonable one and go on with your day

Logic to other DAWs....."hold my beer".
Sure it still does not all and is the end of all but for me personally i never ever need another DAW now.
Especially if i think i bought Logic Pro X for €179 years ago and never had to pay a cent for all the updates.
Of course just a personal opinion and depending on what you need other DAWs might better for others. But beside modular synthesis i got now everything i want inside a DAW. Normally i do not use much step sequencers but i really like the one in Logic.
I really feel not much need for any third party plug-ins beside some of my sample libraries and like i said 1-2 modular synths.
They might bring it to iOS devices also in near future which would replace also 99% from my audio apps there.
Many people say Apple do not care much about creators but i fail to see any not music focused company to care even close as much. It starts with core audio across all their OS and end with this big and free and really awesome update.
And beside some single plug-ins having trouble it all still runs smooth on the latest OS and Logic version on my close to 7 years old macbook.

Sorry, I didn‘t read the whole thread, thus I might repeat here. But are beside these many positive voices also persons like me, where logic crashes very hefty? The new features are very nice, but in 2h, I had at least 5 crashes. Far away from stable...looks rather like a beta version. Any similar experiences?

The same on my side (not Catalina). For me going manually in the app store and searching for logic helped. Then I could update via buttonMissOptimyst wrote: Tue May 12, 2020 9:59 pm Not showing up in the App Store as an update. On Catalina OS. Any suggestions?
Edit: Found someone mentioned Command R. Worked for me yay!
