Europa replacement suggestions

still not understanding the point of the OP -- there is a perfectly fine plugin version of this synth, it's literally the only Reason synth they ever made a VST of, so what is the issue? It has not been 'removed' or disabled or anything, so using it is just like using any other VST that doesn't see frequent updates, which is like 75% of them afaic.

Works fine for me in Catalina.yellowmix wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 3:20 am Did Catalina stop it from working or was it updated? Not sure when the discontinuation was announced, I was not notified. Definitely personally disappointed but I know they're struggling to stay relevant so theirs is a rational decision to me.
I don't remember even seeing that it was discontinued, but it's not something I use often anyway, so wouldn't be a major loss to me. Might not use it at all when u-he implements browsing for wavetables in Hive.

The developer formerly known as Propellerheads almost never update their devices beyond bugfixes anyway, so the VST Europa is likely to see as many updates as the rack version, which is to say none. Having said that, if you like the synth and work with it nicely, why worry about it now? use it until the day comes when some Apple update kills it (which might be 10 years from now for all we know) and then worry about a replacement. the world is not short of wavetable synths these days.

Answer to the question, Thorn is almost the same as Europa.sidesword wrote: Fri May 08, 2020 2:18 pmi’m considering moving from reason to bitwig depending on how future updates look, and i’m not really interested in using the rack either.Tj Shredder wrote: Fri May 08, 2020 1:34 pm Why do you want to replace it? It runs fine in Reason rack on Mac as far as I know...
A tip: Don't sell Reason. Buy Bitwig and use them like.. You know.. Both.

ANA 2 would be a nice replacement. Much more full-featured as well. And it is on sale right now I believe.

Pigments, serum, or phase plant would be good alternatives.

I don't know if it's a replacement, but it's a damn good synth! I bought it after trying it for 15 mins!tony10000 wrote: Sat May 16, 2020 7:45 am ANA 2 would be a nice replacement. Much more full-featured as well. And it is on sale right now I believe.
It doesn't have the harmonic filter, but the sound and effects are so good. It's better for me than Europa or Thorn because it can do soft round sounds easier. But it can do a vast range of sounds, so it can easily be the only synth needed especially the workflow and design make it really fast to reach the results desired
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

This is another hidden gem! Can do super harsh sounds if require. This with ANA can be a perfect combothecontrolcentre wrote: Sat May 16, 2020 8:53 pm Factory is another goodie ...

it depends on how you use europa, I haven't exactly kept up but I'm not aware of anything else that lets you use two modifiers on each oscillator and has a spectral filter per oscillator. I never even felt the need to load up wavetables when I was playing with it.. so much warping that could be done on the oscillators it came with. Thorn is great but the warping is not as good in my opinion and all oscs feed into one spectral filter. And I never had that much success making any interesting waveforms in its editor, that needs more work, it can be done but it's way too tedious and single cycle import doesn't work that well. Like I said it just depends on what you want, the two are similar technologies but have a vastly different workflow. The filters are great in thorn though.
