clipnotic wrote: Sat May 16, 2020 10:27 pm Ableton is overprized since years, but their fanbase praise them like god, because their marketing works. It's the same like with clothes and shoes, the mainstream is buying every shit for every price! I wouldn't use it for free ... :D
So let me get this right...you wouldn’t use it even if you got it for free, yet you know it’s “overprized” (whatever that means), and you also know that every user “praise them like god”?

Do tell you you gain such insights from zero usage.
Sorry teacher, I meant "overpriced"! :D

And I tested Ableton 7, 8 and 9 and compared to every other DAW, I tested and I'm using, Ableton is the worst, but it has the most fanboys! :D
So how did you become an expert in the users of all DAWs?

Do tell.
Well, that was really a hard job and it took much time! But if you'll work hard, perhaps you'll reach that level, too! :D

LPX is only catching up, and apparently is buggy (3rd party plugins, etc). So, no, Live can't be doomed. Live is still a solid, consistent, reliable, and tested platform.

Funny enough I recently switched from Logic to Ableton but I only ever use arrangement mode. I don't care for live loops.

Logic's new Step Sequencer, Quick Sampler (that can sample directly), Sampler, Auto-Sample and Drum Machine Designer are all useful in the arrangement too.

Ableton is not going anywhere anytime soon. It's always been pretty pricey to jump in and Logic has always been the best bang for buck DAW. That's nothing new. While people are just looking at the Live Loop thing in Logic or the Session view in Live. Live has a few other things going for it. It's really about the workflow and how it does things. Whether that's worth the premium price of not for Live is kind of up to you.

This is not the first (nor the last) time where Logic has disrupted the market by offering what others offer for less. Its why in general the median prices for DAWs nowadays are far less than they were in the 90's or early aughts. Before Apple bought Logic it used to cost $1500 or so and you had to pay for all the extra plugins. Other DAWs like Cubase, Cakewalk etc were like this too. Apple bought Logic and dropped the price to $999, then $500 around LP7-9, then dropped it to $199 with everything included in LPX. That forced everyone to drop their prices and include more content as well. I don't know if this will force Ableton to lower prices (doubtful they will just throw more stuff into the package, or make another PUSH), but it has happened before.

Wow. The new LPX step sequence is amazing... and I was blown away by the one in Studio One a couple weeks ago, but the LPX step sequencer is the best I've ever used. This update got me to download Logic on my new Mac (I hadn't even bothered until now). I think Maschine really needs to step up their game. They seem obsolete now in my mind. Maschine should be more worried than Ableton, but I'm guessing all these companies (Ableton, Bitwig) are going to need to step up their step sequencing game (no pun intended).

claudedefaren wrote: Sat May 16, 2020 3:41 pm But Logic doesn't have Audio Effect Racks, Instrument Racks, Midi Effect Racks, and the macros. Those are a super important part of my workflow. Logic is super compelling, but without racks and macros, I'm not switching.
It have stacks and smart controls tho
Stacks are cool but it's for instrument grouping, there isn't an equivalent of audio effect racks or midi effect racks that can be used on an instrument channel. Smart controls I didn't know existed, can you map parameters from multiple plugins to the same control? Can you map multiple knobs from a plugin to the same control knob?
This is kiddie stuff that Reason has been doing since version 2.5(?)

Anyway what stops you from using an AU chainer plugin within Logic Pro? To achieve the same results.

PS I went to Abe but it seems to be a temporary discount. But it is not stated at Bax. This is how you screw things up. If you want to.
