I watched Mick Gordon - Creator of the Doom Soundtrack - talk about his approach for creating the soundtrack. His talk is amazing.
The punch line and what it means is worht the talk on it's own: Change The Process - Change The Outcome!

Please watch the whole talk. It's truely inspiring.
What my question is about, Mick starts to talk at around 17:30.
From this point he explains how he setup his Doom Instrument... it uses 4 chains each including a lot of analog pedal fx.

Can we do a Doom Instrument with MSoundFactory? How would you set it up?

My take on "The Doom Instrument" ... Followed the Micks philosophie to start with a sine wave and noise and did some crazy stuff ... check out the feedback which uses the GenCMod (at the bottom) which is feed into the Set module on the top ...

Please: To start turn down volume! Play low notes, like C-2. You can start experimenting with changing the Delay-Time in the "DelayTap" module. Or you might change volumes in the first mixer from the top.
Don't make me responsible for your nightmares ;-)

It would certainly be possible with enough time to build something like this in MSF or MXXX. I've built some pretty insane distorters in MXXX that created some fairly wild sounds. But it would need someone to essentially make a bunch of them, with some simplified controls that did fun stuff to morph between the different sounds.

Yes you can. The Exponent and I were discussing it in private one day and I made that patch as an example. Fun stuff :D

Cheers for posting this - was really inspiring..
I went down a bit of a rabbit hole of reading and seems he has just had a big falling out with the Doom guys over not finishing new music for them in time..

I haven't had a lot of success so far with the distortions etc in MSF but hopefully it is just from not experimenting enough yet.. they always sound a bit 'soft' somehow to me. He was getting some wonderfully brutal sounds out of his Doom instrument - really good stuff.
I have had Dwarfcraft eurorack and similar stuff to his pedals in the past and I remember it being much more in your face sounding than anything I have made yet in MSF.
I'm not in my studio today so cant try your preset or experiment myself but will have a play around too.
