Hello gang,

I trust you guys and gals and that is why I post this here first. We all (ab)use the hell out of U-he. :tu:

My laptop is on its last leg and I need to find some replacement Before my summer holiday in a month and half. I find myself not knowing so much about computers as I did in the 90-s

I am producing in the box with Ableton Live 10 Suite (using Wavetable heavily) and Reason 11 Suite as well as EVERY U-he synthesizer and Soundtoys 5. I am looking for something w good SSD (are you guys using Ext/Int drives for tracking??), (stable/compatible)CPU, sufficient RAM (~16gb) and Battery (does not need to be the abso best). Graphics card is NOT either of utmost importance, yet desire 15in+ screen. This will be a portable MUSIC prod workstation that will be used with a Control Surface (PUSH2 and one other, for instance). SILENCE (in and out of the Shell) and stability IS vital, of course. I am def no expert in this area of portable ws, but I know many of us produce mainly Electronic Music of some variety. I have up to now used Windows OS. All of my soft-gear is Windows-based up to now.

I would highly appreciate hearing what you are using for your portable RePro1/5 tracking solutions for example. I very much appreciate ANY gracious advice YOU GUYS may have Before I proceed to otgher forums,...as this is pretty much the only forum I trust here anymore

Take care and thanks in advance

PS: I stress. This is ONLY for Music production. Anyone using a Dell XPS? 2019 15" model? (edit: scratch the XPs 15.. there are DPC issues)

Ideally you'll want a laptop that features one of the new Ryzen 4000 series of CPUs. You can see why:

Problem is there aren't many of them out yet. There's the Asus Zephyrus, but that is designed with gaming in mind, so I don't know that is really suited for music production.
Though not released yet, the Asus ZenBook 14 UM433IQ looks like a better option for your needs.

Highly appreciated, loungepanda :)

Yes, I was reading a bit last night about AMD making a comeback w these Ryzen cpu. They were the chip back n the 90’s as well. Looks like Intel is once again taking the backseat, but aren’t AMD causing issues w music software? Don’t know if still the case but...

Yes, some kind of Asus model seems to be called for. Good quality build from what I am reading. They’ve always had a decent motherboard iirc. I didn’t mention screen but I use a 15.5 now and not really wanting to go lower. I am not against size, but I understand the 17in are a battery drain. Do you use a 14in screen with your setup? That ZenBook you point out there, does the 14 represent screen?

I spent literally hours combing the net for advice last night and it leaves me more tangled than when I began searching. There are a couple sites recommending Dell XPS models but I have reading there are latency issues with Live 10 that they can’t work out.

I also searched around on the wider KVR boards but everything tends to devolve to personal attacks (per usual) and the advice becomes clouded/uncertain.

Some sites/boards suggest these gaming laptops ARE the way to go, like that Asus ROG Strix model. I’ve seen a couple sites suggesting it.

What is yours (or any other U-he user) -personal- experience? Thank you so much
