I'm pretty new to this, our band has always used tracktion (going back to tracktion 4), but the bass player has been our engineer/editor. So I have some familiarity, but this is the first time I have undertaken the entire process from visioning/writing a song to a final product, using Waveform 11.
So, riddle me this. I was getting pretty close to what I would consider a final edit for vox, guitars, bass, drums (mostly loops, some midi where the tempo slows down and is variable) and even “collective” strings in the bridge.
Playing it back, at some point things went haywire with volumes and compressors. First noticed problem on vocals, half way through the first verse, volume dropped significantly (in the middle of the clip!). Could not adjust before or after, can’t reset, settings just revert to what they were before. Started looking around, volume levels seemed to frozen on most tracks. Drums became too loud but couldn’t change volume levels. Maybe it's just me, but I’ve noticed some other quirks, waveform seems kind of buggy sometimes.
I had to go back two iterations (from version 6 to version 4) to get rid of the problem, now going to try to import all the changes and additions from the more recent versions back into version 4 (hopefully without f**king it up again). Frustrating, a lot of what seems like unnecessary work. I like tracktion/waveform, but I dump enough time into this already without having to go back and trying to fix what seem like inexplicable screw-ups. If it is something I did inadvertently, I'd like to know. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you inadvertently recorded automation?
Try turning off automation if it's on. Green button in the transport control section.

Wow. Thanks. Automation is among the many, MANY things I do not understand in tracktion software. I had been messing around with tempo and must have inadvertently hit that button. Turned it off, seems to have solved the problem. Rookie mistake (blame the tools not the worker
), learn by doing. Thank you so much for the help and quick reply!!
