It surely is a coincidence. Coding such a synth takes years, for both Synapse and Arturia.

Sure, but timing is highly suspicious since we're (as it seems) weeks or even days away from Synapse take on OB-Xa, and that is publicly known thanks to this thread.chk071 wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 1:13 pm It surely is a coincidence. Coding such a synth takes years, for both Synapse and Arturia.

I'm playing the demo right now, which I downloaded via their Software Centre app.wagtunes wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 1:08 pm So there are no audio demos of this synth anywhere. We're just supposed to buy it on faith that it sounds good.
I don't think so.

I definitely don't think Arturia was saying oh, Synapse is doing one, let us start to do one now too.
Probably they had started it before they heard of the SynapseAudio one (in public anyway), and decided to try to come to market before Synapse Audio.
But definitely by the way it is being marketed, I would have a hard time believing by the timing that this is NOT geared to reach the market before the Synapse Audio one way or another..

Well... they can only release the synth when it's ready. So, it's obviously ready. Doubt that they'd spend such a effort with preparing their website, making a live stream, sending out emails and and and without planning months before that they'll do that now. And, besides, if Synapse Audio came out with this months ago (as has been rumoured as well), then we wouldn't have to speculate about this now, right?urosh wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 1:17 pmSure, but timing is highly suspicious since we're (as it seems) weeks or even days away from Synapse take on OB-Xa, and that is publicly known thanks to this thread.chk071 wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 1:13 pm It surely is a coincidence. Don't think there's any conspiracy really.

Arturia is a pretty big company with many products. I don't think the schedule would be impacted by a thread on KVR. And it certainly would not be able to be that much. It's not like they would have been taking their sweet time before.
Anyways, if the Minimoog V compared to The Legend is anything to go by, I doubt it will be any contest.

But with all the synths to choose from, why pick that ONE?chk071 wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 1:13 pmIt surely is a coincidence. Coding such a synth takes years, for both Synapse and Arturia.
The only explanation that makes sense is that their marketing department or whoever handles the area of "what the world wants" got enough requests, for whatever reason, for THIS particular synth. Might also explain Synapse Audio's reason for doing it. I mean certainly nobody is going to create a synth that nobody wants.
So I have to wonder, is the OB-Xa THAT popular? I can think of other synths that I would rather have that haven't been made by anyone yet. The Andromeda is the first one to come to mind. Nothing sounds like it and yet, nada. Does nobody care about it?
How about an emulation of the new Schmidt? If that's even possible.

So, how does it sound? My guess would be passable at best given their other emulations.

Why not? Arturia have loads of analog emus in their portfolio, and, the OB-Xa is one the most popular of the Oberheim synths, if not THE most popular.
P.S.: Might be fair to open a new thread for the Arturia one, rather than to discuss it here.

I really wouldn't write the arturia version off sound quality wise. They have very old emulations which get not the best rep (like the minimoog) but their latest stuff is up there with the best (and also kicks the cpu in the balls).
Two things the Synapse version sure wins is the GUI (arturia's guis are photorealistic but waste a lot of space) and MPE compatibility.

Intro offer is showing as 99 euros for me.
