I worry more that they might have actually interesting new stuff which could trigger my GAS...; - )fmr wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 1:57 pmDon't worry...Tj Shredder wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 1:44 pm Usually they don‘t publish before a new release of a V collection. Well... the original was known and famous for its great strings (probably the best string sounds I ever heard coming from a synth), brass, pads, etc. Not for beefy bass.chk071 wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 1:59 pmYeah. Even though in this case, I don't think the original synth really has much snappy-ness to it. Actually, the Arturia emu does that "smudge" on the attack of the filter envelope quite well, which I also hear on the sound demos. Still miss some of the details other analog emus have though.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 1:53 pm I wish I liked Arturia's sound more. It's fine for pads and softer sounds, especially higher frequency stuff, but it just doesn't do the punchy attack that Analog synths have, or good emulations for that matter.
This is NOT a Minimoog, and if people were expecting that, they were simply mistaken.

Refused to pay for the upgrade to Collection 7 for 299 Euros. Today, got an offer of 149 Euros including the new OB-Xa instrument. No brainer. Now I finally have Collection 7 instruments I wanted at a reasonable price.

I hear a lot of bass in sound demos of the OB-Xa.fmr wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 2:07 pmWell... the original was known and famous for its great strings (probably the best string sounds I ever heard coming from a synth), brass, pads, etc. Not for beefy bass.chk071 wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 1:59 pmYeah. The OB-Xa didn't have individual voice cards, AFAIK. That was the OB-XAnX wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 2:47 pm do you have access to each of the eight individual voice cards, or is it not modeled like that?

Yes, as you can also hear in the original. But I was talking about "beefy" bass. That kind of aggressive bass the Mini was known for (or else I misunderstood the previous comments)chk071 wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 2:33 pmI hear a lot of bass in sound demos of the OB-Xa.fmr wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 2:07 pmWell... the original was known and famous for its great strings (probably the best string sounds I ever heard coming from a synth), brass, pads, etc. Not for beefy bass.chk071 wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 1:59 pmYeah. I hate when people start comparing ANYTHING with the Mini, as if there was never anything else in the face of the earth.

I did an in depth but non technical break down of the synth. Making a patch from scratch, to checking out an insane amount of the presets with plenty of noodling around.
Call me crazy, but this one seems pretty special, crew. The Stereo Spread knob function especially seems quite innovative.
A heaping dose of outrageously goofy synth tracks, scores and chiptunes.

This whole Arturia vs Synapse thing brings up an interesting dilemma for those of us who care.
If my guess is correct, that the Synapse goes for $149, then the Arturia V7 Upgrade with the OB-Xa at the same price would obviously be the better deal given you're also getting 3 new synths. For those who design libraries (all my V Collection Libraries do well) this is an even bigger incentive.
I'm going to wait until Synapse Audio's comes out before making a decision. Either way, there is no way this doesn't cut into Synapse Audio's sales. Those who buy Arturia's aren't going to need 2 OB-Xa synths. At least I know I don't. And as much as I love Synapse's stuff. I can't see spending money on a synth that I already have and, going by the sound demos posted, is good enough to my ears.
YMMV
