That was the year MIDI was affordable enough for me to get rid of all my old gear. It's the year I went from using two modified TB303s as sequencers to using a MIDI sequencer (Yamaha QX7) to play a CZ101, which provided all my backing from that point on (until I replaced it with an ESQ-M in 1988). It was the year I got rid of all my analogue synths, except for my Korg Delta, which I kept until I got a DSS-1 the following year. I ended up giving most of it away, nobody was willing to pay money for any of it. I got a couple of hundred buck for my SH101 and about half what I paid for the Mono/Poly but the rest of the stuff, including the TB303s, were giveaways.

Some people abandoned the Minimoog because of Midi and patch management, but not because of the sound. Especially the missing patch management is a big problem when playing live.

I don't know about that because, as I've said, I've never seen a MM on stage but I've seen plenty of Pro Ones and it was just as limited when it came to MIDI. In fact, Pro One was probably the most ubiquitous synth among Sydney bands in the early 80s, everyone seemed to have one.

After 35 years, to me Thriller still sounds orders better than the video of that noisy music you had linked earlier to demonstrate the squelchy sound of the Korg filter.

An advantage of the Pro One was the onboard arp and step sequencer, ideal for a mono synth. And it had more modulation options.

My mom? And who is "we" in your sentence? I make music that sounds good to me, even if it sounds 35 or 40 years old. What sounded great 37 years ago as in the case of Thriller, still sounds good today. Progress in terms of sound quality has become slower and slower over the years and decades. There were huge improvements from the 60's to the 80's, but less so from the 80's to 2020. Personally, I clearly prefer the sound of the mid-80, and I am by far not the only one.

EDIT- they are doing what they did with Pigments it seems- I am being offered OB-Xa and an upgrade to V7 Collection for 149USD.

They offer me V7 for 249,00 € (I have Pigments and (shudders) SEM V), might jump in for digitals and Buchla
(Arturia OBXa sounds pedestrian, but mseg*4 which are done nicely makes it useful)

I doubt this will change anything regarding release schedule for Synapse, Richard does not seem like rush-to-market type.

My mom actually has a more modern, eclectic taste of music than me. She listens to Celine Dion and such crap, which I also consider torture
To most people music is just a minor aspect of life, something in the background.

Tried the Arturia one. Uses more cpu, dopesn't sound as good. It's ok but I think Synapse will do fine. I do hope it is priced the same as The Legend though to be as competitive as possible against Arturia's low prices.
