Me too.Teksonik wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 7:28 pmI'm a Boomer but I'm more interested in the future of synthesis than the past since I already lived through that period.Calenberger wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 7:14 pm It's a market for boomer's juvenile dreams.
They lost track of synth development in the nineties and later...
That's why I no longer care about hardware and have focused on the versatility and potential of software.

That's why I'm delighted to make sounds with (for example) Alchemy2, Bazille, Massive X etc...
But obviously we are a minority in our generation.

We certainly have a much better CS-80 than Arturia's, in Memorymoon's attempt. It's way closer. And SQ8L is really very very close to an actual SQ-80.wagtunes wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 6:51 pmWe still don't have a great emulation for any of these synths, all of which I think are special and I am sure others feel the same way.

At least they have Pigments though, which I've grown to love. Would be great if they could add some more forward looking synths that aren't sims of existing synths.

On what facts do you base that assumption ?
Any demographic sales breakdown of VSTi emulations of hardware synths ?

On my gut feeling.Teksonik wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 7:42 pmOn what facts do you base that assumption ?

Most of the time highly precise
And on the instruments developed and offered.
Because the developers know exactly where the money is...

SQ8L is 32 bit only and Windows only. So I agree with the post: I would seriously love to see a high-quality emulation of the ESQ-1 or SQ-80. You know, one I can actually USE.EvilDragon wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 7:40 pm

If a developer were to ask me "would you rather I work on some new form of synthesis or do an emulation of a synth you liked such as the Ensoniq VFX ?"WatchTheGuitar wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 7:40 pm At least they have Pigments though, which I've grown to love. I would say "please push the boundaries of synthesis forward but if you do a VFX emulation I might be a customer".
The Arturia OBXa-V is a perfect example. At $49 I'd be a customer if for nothing else to fight the lock down boredom but at $149 I'm just not interested....

The Memorymoon is still no CS80 and the SQ8L is 32 bit, so that leaves me out.EvilDragon wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 7:40 pmWe certainly have a much better CS-80 than Arturia's, in Memorymoon's attempt. What problem to you have with Arutria's Prophet VS? It sounds pretty damn close to me.wagtunes wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 6:51 pm We still don't have a great emulation for any of these synths, all of which I think are special and I am sure others feel the same way.

And that's just scratching the surface. What I wouldn't give for any of these.
Sadly, it is doubtful we will EVER see any GREAT emulations of any of these.
Point is, there is still plenty yet untapped.
Otherwise, I agree with and like your list. I wish some devs would take on emulating Ensoniq's synths. ESQ-1, SQ-80, VFX, Fizmo. There are no emulations of these -- SQ8L is windows only, 32 bit, and dead. The rest have only been done as dubious sample-only UVI libraries, which I have zero interest in.

Just for grins and giggles a couple of weeks ago I contacted Creative and asked them if they would be interested in supporting VSTi emulations of the ESQ-1, SQ-80, VFX etc.mholloway wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 7:50 pm SQ8L is 32 bit only and Windows only. They actually responded which surprised me but the response was "we'll let you know if anything develops in the future" which is corporate support speak for "we have absolutely no idea what you're talking about"......

"In 1998 Ensoniq, like E-mu before it, became part of Creative Technologies. The two companies were conglomerated into Emu-Ensoniq, doing business out of Scotts Valley, California. Creative Technologies absorbed the former Ensoniq manufacturing plant in Malvern, Pennsylvania, into its own system."

I dug up the email. Their actual response was....
"We will contact you should the opportunity arises".
