It may be in my head but guess what? I follow my head not someone else head and I'm just expressing my experience and opinion. You don't need to like it and even more nobody should take my opinion as granted. If somebody feels that OBX-a is so good that it's worth to add it to collection - it's fine! I don't mind if someone say that MX sounds to him/her weak and lifeless. Everyone is different on biological and psychological level this we all perceive same things differently.mholloway wrote: Wed May 20, 2020 6:06 pmOr, consider that this 'full rich sound' is all in your head, and your deductions of its presence and/or lack thereof are almost entirely subjective and derived from other biases: the company, the GUI, the time period, hardware vs software, and so on. People think they hear all of these differences, and then repeatedly fail a basic A vs B blind test. A preset designer made a great video a few years back with Diva vs. an actual Oberheim. All the analog purists kept asserting the difference between the two, and then when it came to actually blindly spotting the difference, they couldn't do it. They chose Diva again and again.pixel85 wrote: Wed May 20, 2020 5:53 pm My thoughts are not on overall Oberheim sound but on nerd level of attributes/detail in the sound which every 'normal non-audio folk' would absolutely ignoreeg. simple SAW preset in Massive X can sound full, rich, powerful, full of energy. I don't hear that in OBX-a V. It lacks in (micro)detail and I feel that I would need to use additional effects to beef it up while in synths like Repro, MX or Dune additional effects are for sound design purpose only because they sound rich without any addtional 'help'. In 2020 I expect synth plugins to have full sound and I suspect that original Oberheim has more juice than the emulation because a lot of analog synths have this full rich sound that I can't hear in the Arturia emulation.
I really would like to see an experiment where the most powerful synth emulations are released under strange name and ugly GUI to see if those synths would get the same amount of attention.
So I wonder. You say a Massive X 'simple saw' can be full, rich, powerful, full of energy -- whereas a simple saw in OBXa V cannot. Are you sure? Can you post audio for us, one of each, so we can hear this clear difference? Would we instantly be able to tell how one 'simple saw' was full of energy and oh so rich, while the other was not?
I'm not saying there aren't differences; of course there are, huge ones. But in my experience the qualities of synths only emerge when you start programming them, forcing them to be dynamic during playback: sweeping the filter widely, stacking oscillators, adding cross-mod, and so on. That's when an emulation excels or crumbles at sounding 'authentic' and perhaps even 'rich and full of energy.' But when you make these assertions about sawtooths, it's just a bunch of biased hot air.
Btw I didn't made any assertion but stated my personal opinion. Can't you differentiate which is which?

Let's say your original estimate of the price for the Synapse version is correct. You'd have to sell what 10 banks to have it pay for itself ? Less if the release price is lower......wagtunes wrote: Wed May 20, 2020 8:43 pm it comes down to available funds. I don't have the luxury of buying both. You know what? If the government sends me another $2,400, it's all moot anyway. I'll probably be getting a whole bunch of stuff I've been putting off. But right now, I'm on a tight budget and something has to give. I can't count on potential sales when Dune 3 was a relative failure for me. Still surprised about that as Dune 2 does so well for me. Doesn't sound like you've got much confidence in your product...
Anyway I don't think the Republicans are going to give us any more money so I'm not counting on any but if they do I might pick up Arturia's V7 collection.
Should be enough content in there to take care of the lock down boredom for awhile.....

I don't have that problem. With over 100 synths and most of my time these days spent actually making music, I don't get bored easily. In fact, today, I just finished my 3rd CD of the year. Had a lot of fun doing it.Teksonik wrote: Wed May 20, 2020 10:52 pm Doesn't sound like you've got much confidence in your product...![]()

I suppose you want to tell them that THEIR standards are low. I'm sure they'd appreciate it.

I'm still just demo'ing for now, but I have found that this synth *really* comes alive when you start using the Stereo knob + the 'secret panel' that you have to click on after clicking the Stereo button above the Stereo Knob (weird choice, Arturia, lots of people are missing this altogether).
I've made multiple patches with the stereo-offset and movement knobs in full use, and they sound really big, rich and fantastic. Then I turn the stereo knob back to 0, and they sound small and thin and lifeless. Interesting.
I wonder if some of the people who are quick to say 'it sounds crap, the Synapse will be better' have really played with it, and tried out the stereo panners and perhaps even more importantly this Stereo knob + control panel. It can make this thing sound big, warm and very, very dynamic. I'm impressed, and they will likely get my 49 bucks after all.

Like I said, when I listened to the official Arturia demo, it sounded excellent unlike that demo that was posted earlier.mholloway wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 1:36 am I'm still just demo'ing for now, but I have found that this synth *really* comes alive when you start using the Stereo knob + the 'secret panel' that you have to click on after clicking the Stereo button above the Stereo Knob (weird choice, Arturia, lots of people are missing this altogether).

Disco DSP OBXD seems to have lots of community support with skins, presets, super light on CPU, and sounds fantastic...Arturias sounds good too, but that CPU hit on some of the presets is a turn off. They really gotta get their CPU under control. That is kind of a factor
