Couldn't resist a few more bits and pieces. I'm in a gritty, digital place, obviously.

Yes, if you insist on REs but their subscription for VSTs total bundle (or whatever it's called) might be a better deal. You get much, MUCH more there:

I got Polystep and Beatchop. Wanted both for the longest time. I don't think I'll be getting anything else.

eventually i bought uberwave audio to cv, seems to me nice for sounddesign.

have my eye on Sunder Amplitude Splitter, but i can mimick it in meldaproduction MXXCore (and have many melda plugins, so the MB versions can do it also). strange it can't be done in triad (or i don't see it).

demoing the rob papen quad. nice. but me thinks i can do it in other ways. (and the vst is the same price.)
and i have synths that seems closely to sound it provides. perhaps the price is not that big.

o by the way: rewards can only be used in the reward store? yes. i guess. a shame... would be nice.

I ended up with...

Autosub 1.1.0 FULL: 19.00 EUR
The Synthwave Plugin 1.1.0 FULL: 29.00 EUR
Jackbox 7R-808 Analog Drum Module 1.0.4 FULL: 19.00 EUR
Villanelle Killer Wah 1.0.1 FULL: 9.00 EUR
Psyclone Dual Rotary Speaker 1.0.1 FULL: 15.00 EUR
ES-01 Analog Synthesizer 1.1.0 FULL: 39.00 EUR
Jackbox 7R-909 Analog Drum Module 1.0.3 FULL: 19.00 EUR
JackBox L1MDrum 1.5.2 FULL: 15.00 EUR

..which was almost the same as my initial list, but the SidMaster was replaced by ES-01 Analog Synthesizer.

Good choice. The ES-01 is one of those RE hidden gems.

A little OT, but can Reason run a VST that outputs MIDI and sends it to an instrument within the rack? I know that midi can now go into and out of the rack, but what about loading a VST that generates midi data (e.g., a sequencer such as Nora or Kirnu Cream) - can that midi data then be used within the rack itself? This will help me determine whether to buy certain REs in the sale that sort of duplicate what I can already do in VST.

Thanks!

With Rack VST - yes, it can take MIDI data generated either by host sequencer or any VST placed before it that generates MIDI (Cthulu, Scaler, etc.)

With Reason itself - no, it can't use VSTs that generate MIDI.

I'll have to agree. I trialed both of them shortly, and I was so unimpressed by SidMaster. The worst SID-emulation I've heard, while the ES-01 did impress me. For some reason I thought it was a rompler, and not a synthesizer, but it appeared it wasn't. And the sounds works perfectly for Synth/Retrowave.

Interesting - thanks for this information. I wonder why there is a difference between the way Rack VST and Reason standalone handle VSTs that generate MIDI. Is this intentional?

Reason rack can’t load VSTs at all. So the midi plugin would need to exist outside the rack plugin. Reason standalone does not route midi from vst plugins. Reason has always had a very simplified MIDI framework. If you notice, you never have to select MIDI source or channel whenever you are working with Reason standalone, it treats all MIDI sources as MIDI Omni essentially. This is handy for ease of use, and you can still lock a midi device to a particular sequencer lane, but MIDI Routing in Reason is simple and behind the curtain. So to implement VST midi, they will need to change how it operates somehow. My vote is for routable graphic MIDI cables behind the rack, but who knows what if anything they will come up with.

There's no difference. Reason (the DAW itself) doesn't support MIDI VSTs, but if whatever host you use Rack VST in does, then it will accept that MIDI the same way as it accepts it from MIDI clips or controller input. The difference is the host, not Reason vs. Rack VST :)
