Hi all, Waveform 11.0.36 should now be available for download in your tracktion.com downloads area under the "BETA" button.

Code: Select all

11.0.36:
- UI: Added option to have side panels horizontal on left and right
- UI: Enabled OpenGL renderer option on Windows and Linux (available from the "Appearance" settings page)

11.0.35:
- Step clips: Added more factory presets

11.0.34:
- Submix Tracks: Reverted a change to submix contained tracks which would cause them to always be soloed if the parent was soloed
- Previews: Fixed preview playback of step clips
- Scripting: Fixed the "Set solo isolate for tracks" action

11.0.33:
- Sandboxing: Avoided some rare cases where UI could hang
- Sandboxing: [Experimental] Added a mode to enable a new way of storing parameters which should use less CPU (available from the "General Behaviour" settings page")
- Racks: [Experimental] Fixed a crash on when using plugins with more than 32 channels
Of particular note is the experimental sandboxing mode. This should give a decent speed up when using sandboxing so I'd like some feedback if anyone is feeling adventurous and wants to give it a go.

The other thing is we've enabled an option for Open GL rendering on Windows and Linux. Whether this speeds up the UI or not varies on a lot fo things but if you're seeing sluggish behaviour it's worth trying out.

Nice update. I Will be able to test the latest features, albeit on a very underpowered machine ( lenovo cloudbook with 4gb ram, dual core intel and a eMMC drive of 64gb with ubuntu-budgie-20.04 ) as my last box packed in and with things as they are atm it's impossible to get the laptop I want.
It's actually quite amazing that it's possible to make music on such a cheap and small machine 😃

Hi Drow, I'm trying out 11.0.36 with OpenGL enabled. Running Ubuntu 20.04 and a 4K monitor, scrolling is smoother but I've noticed a bit of an input lag.

Thanks for reverting the submix solo behavior.

I've noticed visual lag when step clip containing tracks are expanded. It looks like the Preview change fixes that?
Linux version?

Thank you for your great work!
i go to work and test your updates.
Please upgrade to eq4 and compressor!
do Actions pop-up window can be removed with the "Esc" key.

Can you elaborate on what kind of upgrades you're after? There are very feature rich EQs and compressors in the DAW Essentials plugin pack.

What Actions popup window are you referring to? The Actions panel is a panel that lives in the side browser at the moment.

Just a tiny detail: Would be possible to have an option to download beta versions from a download manager? Or would you rather keep masses from installing beta? :-D

I'm guessing he means the mini Actions popup. It activates with a click of a word but clicking again on that word only makes it flicker. It's not immediately obvious how to make it go away. Please note that there aren't too many inert surfaces - a lot of places you can click to make it go away have consequences. I usually end up moving the play head or activating something else. I would really like to be able to just hit Esc or have the clickable word be a toggle.

Surely there must be consensus by now...

If you click on a black area in box it goes away.

This is what the pough shows. this is what in scrinsote removed with Esc
DAW Essentials plugin pack - in basic kit not included - costs money, for me it’s expensive at the moment.
Thanks

This made me go to Tracktion.com and purchasing a W11 Pro license.
Now I'm owner of a copy of Waveform 11 Pro! Thanks for this major improvement!

I hope there is some room for more fps still. The app is so much more responsive, but not 100% fluid. Is there a fps limit at the moment?
Three ideas for OpenGL rendering:
  • Would be great, if there was an option to set custom frames per seconds such as 30hz, 60hz, 144hz or 240hz.
  • Is it possible to separate rendering from loading VST presets? Every time a preset is loaded the whole GUI freezes. GUI rendering restart delayed after finishing the loading process of the VST.
  • The play head isn't rendered incrementally depending on the zoom level. The play head is jittering a lot, if you zoom on a single clip.

A midi bug:
  • Splitting midi clips though notes, will cut off "note off" as well. So the vst is continuing to play notes. although the clip has ended already.
Waveform should insert "note off" for all (still active) notes at the end of clips.

Maybe there is a small improvement in performance, but for me its not really noticeable yet.
Note: I wasn't able to recover the sandbox with this option enabled once.

Sandbox bugs I found on Windows 10, OpenGl rendering enabled:
  • GUI Lag increases immensely by enabling sandbox and changing presets. (Coming from Bitwig: Their GUI isn't affected by VST preset changes)
  • The bidirectional automation link doesn't work properly with sandbox enabled. W11 doesn't receive "last touched parameter" on a lot of third party vst plugins. Without sandbox, these plugins behave flawlessly.
  • Strange behavior: maybe by enabling sandbox, W11 won’t unload buffered vsts from previously opened projects in the core app, which lead to distortion. I have to test this further.
  • W11 suppresses plugin notifications during load up of projects, which crashes the whole app, since the vst awaits user confirmation, but the user can’t see the notifications windows.

Repro Video:

First without sandbox, short video cut, then same procedure with sandbox enabled:
  1. switching presets in AKAI VIP (software is included with nearly every InMusic keyboard).
-> GUI has a noticeable "hick up" without sandbox, with sandbox enabled: GUI freezes for seconds.
  2. trying to use "learn automation". Which works without sandbox, but doesn't with sandbox. A lot of vst are affected but not all.

Thanks for the feedback. The "learn automation" was a silly error, I'll have that fixed for the next release.
I think the GUI freeze when changing presets is to do with the number of parameters a plugin has? Do you notice this takes longer with plugins that have very large numbers of parameters?
