[Don't bother reading, MSuperLooper works great for this with low cpu usage!]
Perhaps I have overlooked a better module to use for this, though at the moment I'm using MCompare (inside MXXX) as a cpu efficient looping audio file player (Follow is Off). In that usage, it would be nice to be able to have more than one file be able to play simultaneously, and also have each file slot's volume exposed for modulation to MXXX. Of course I could just use multiple instances of MCompare, but I assume it would be more cpu efficient to use a single instance.
I didn't use a sampler type module because they all seem to require a midi note to activate, nor did I see a latch mode (though I could latch an incoming midi note externally). Also I found only MSoundFactory to have a looping mode (not to mention it understandably uses more cpu).
In my particular use, it is intended for live low latency use (therefor a preference for low cpu usage). In MXXX I'm modulating the output of MCompare with an envelope follower to layer the looping audio file with my input signal dynamically.
An alternative to using MCompare perhaps could be if the Looper module could load an audio file? Although MCompare has the convenience of start and end points and a filter.
[I just realized I should also test MSuperLooper and its cpu usage for this....]
Thanks for considering!
[solved = MSuperLooper!] FR?: MCompare - allow multiple files to play simultaneously.
