Anyway, I finally decided to go ultimate. Especially with the loyalty program again in effect (I hope... we still seem to be getting slightly mixed messages about that), and only now realizing how cool System-8 actually is, I think it's a pretty good value. They could still make the GUIs better in some aspects, and small nitpicks here and there, but comparing how RC started and where we are now, I'm hopeful!

I wish they got their xxxx together already...

Glad they offered customers something they asked for.

Yeah sure, it's a pretty good synth. But D50 it isn't.Examigan wrote: Tue May 26, 2020 10:47 pm But does the XV-5080 have regular synth capabilities with standard waveforms as well, besides all the sample content? Some of the pad and other synth related demos (from the hardware version) I have heard on YouTube sound great.

Yeah, that was the one I based my questions on in a previous post and was quickly shot down as the software being superior to those hardware comparisons.Examigan wrote: Tue Jun 02, 2020 12:48 pm I thought this was interesting:

What I'm hoping for now in this thread is a direct comparison of the JV & XV by those that actually own both. Since Roland seems to not have anything but the hardware manuals to download and won't give anything specifically about the software (including sample and patch/preset lists.) I would like to know those things specifically, as well as whether the filters and programming are different/same and if in fact, everything that's in the JV is in the XV as well. Just the fact that they continue to sell both implies not. But with Roland, you can never tell since they purposely obsfucate to milk the market.
Anyone that has both that can give us real answers would be greatly appreciated here.

They have the manual for the software version of XV-5080 but it doesn't have the sample/patch list:BBFG# wrote: Sun Jun 07, 2020 6:49 pmSince Roland seems to not have anything but the hardware manuals to download and won't give anything specifically about the software (including sample and patch/preset lists.)Examigan wrote: Tue Jun 02, 2020 12:48 pm I thought this was interesting:

I used to have the JV-1080, the XP-80 and the XV-5080. My FA-07 has all sounds of the 5080. The 5080 has all kinds of transient attack samples. It has a powerful synth engine with killer filters (the best among romplers IMO). Most patches and waveforms of expansion boards are top notch.Examigan wrote: Fri May 29, 2020 8:31 pm I know the XV-5080 has lot of waveforms and so it is more of what people call a ROMpler, but from what I've read it has lot of control for synthesis too. Does any one know if it includes any of the short attack-samples that are used in in the D-50?

Slightly off topic: I recently had a vintage Roland JX-8P come into my possession, along with the much coveted PG-800 Programmer (and a snazzy matching Roland branded vinyl carrying case for the PG-800)!
Mulling back and forth whether or not I should keep these or sell it. Battery has been replaced and the keybed cleaned, but the aftertouch is busted. Was going to see if the aftertouch works via MIDI using a newer MIDI controller that does aftertouch, though.
Thoughts?

I can't really say! it comes down to how much you adore and crave the character and capabilities of the JX-8P. We know by now that it can take eons for things to pop up on the Roland Cloud. On the Zenelogy Page, they tease at "Model Expansions" and name-drop the JX-8P -- so we can presume that at some point there will be an authentic re-creation, at least within the Zenelogy plugin. How long that will take is another question altogether. I'd hold onto it and play it safe because you just don't know how long it will take for them to make it. It could be released tomorrow, it could be released five years from now. If you truly don't care for it at all, I'd sell it and keep the change. If there's even the slightest bit of hesitation though, I'd hold onto it!
Trust me, I'm still waiting on a V-Synth and JD800 haha!

Thanks. From what I understand, the PG-800 Programmer that I have is often selling for more than the actual JX-8P due to their rarity. It's in mint/excellent condition as well, so maybe I'll sell it as a kit. Still mulling things over, and I'm in no rush.Shiek927 wrote: Tue Jun 09, 2020 8:38 pm I can't really say! it comes down to how much you adore and crave the character and capabilities of the JX-8P. Oh, absolutely. You're gonna get more salivating offers if you include both as a kit if you decide to sell themEnochLight wrote: Tue Jun 09, 2020 8:41 pmThanks. The xv 5080 in the zenology plugin is not an accurate emulation since it’s missing some of the structures , namely those with the booster( hard clipper) and certain ring mod structures .
Which is why certain patches will sound different , and since this roland we are talking about you have to take their marketing blurb with a big grain of salt

That's funny, as I was in contact with their support 3 days ago and they said - let me quote: "Sorry, enrollment in the early adopter program ended at the beginning of 2019. If you enrolled in the program during that time, you will receive two instruments per 12 months of ultimate membership for a maximum of 10 instruments."Examigan wrote: Sun May 31, 2020 9:43 amThe Roland support wrote me back early this morning (not sure which time zone they are in?). I had asked if they still offer the free plugin after 1 year of membership...and they said "Yes, the loyalty program is still in effect if you purchase an Ultimate level membership."Echoes in the Attic wrote: Sat May 30, 2020 2:25 pm What's changed in the value of the subscription from a year ago? This would mean that the early adopters from back then continue to get free instruments, but not the ones buying ultimate now? Anyway, that certainly reduced my interest to buy into that sub...

They probably misinterpreted Examigan's question. It is still in effect if you bought in before 2019, but not for new people who joined after that.tq wrote: Wed Jun 10, 2020 11:21 amThat's funny, as I was in contact with their support 3 days ago and they said - let me quote: "Sorry, enrollment in the early adopter program ended at the beginning of 2019.
