Nah. Most people don't care But, for any Youtube videos etc, it's a safe bet they'll go to that sound. Fail to Jump sufficiently well and, amongst some, a seed of doubt is then planted about the emulation itself. Cue talk of "great features" and not so much on the base raw sound quality.

Also, it's a simple sound. But, like many "simple sounds", it isn't so simple to do well at all, and the only people who'll tell you that are those who haven't tried it or think any old crap matches. Even Arturia's preset designer fell short.

My advice? Cheat. Use the Arturia OBXA demo. Load the A1 preset, look at the settings, and copy them, with the adjustments suggested. All you need is reverb and the right amount of osc detune. No chorus or anything - that will balls it up. You are then within the ballpark at least

Personally, I'd rather you make some sounds where you choose high resonance with filter positions where you feel they produce the maximum filter harmonic details, then post those. That or a demo download

It's a hardware factory preset (the default one at that) with very minor adjustments to the filter ADSR. I guess Arturia coded a way to import the tape audio data into the plugin, so they have included the Factory presets data. It could also be taken as a statement of confidence, by them, in the quality of their emulation..

Heh, why are we still going on about this? I already posted an example of a ”Jump patch” that is closer to the original than any recreation I have ever heard. It could have been almost any synth that has two sawtooth oscillators (I tried). It’s the (pretty drastic) EQ, reverb, haas-type stereo delay and some other smaller things that make it sound like that.

I know there are still some small differences especially in the chord stab attavks, but I don’t have the original EQ installed any more, so I haven’t been able to do further tweaks to make it even closer. Anyway, 99% of the so-called ”Jump patches” I hear around the internets sound like the creator never even bothered to actually compare their patch to the original song, they don’t even have the basics right.

And about the song itself. I know opinions are opinions, but it’s a freakin’ good song, and anyone claiming otherwise is wrong. Every time I hear the synth intro, I just go ”yeeeaah!” and get this rush of adrenaline and good feels, and am reminded why I love music in general. Feel free to hate it, I’ll continue to love it.

And... since I hate derailing a derailed thread even more, I’ll also repeat that I’m very much looking forward to Obsession, and will definitely get it when it’s out. Peace.

Regarding Obsession,it is all about the voice variation, which has a major impact on most bass, brass, pad, and lead sounds. The Jump sound happens to be one of the few where the voice variation is negligible, since the sound is both too simple and too bright. So while it can be done easily in Obsession (and many other synths), it is wasting a ton of potential. It would be like buying a real CS-80 just to play the Jump sound, which is obviously insane

ah, ok, well all the factory sounds are in the manual i think, so its easy (ish) to copy them if you need to (i usually find they are pretty dull tho)
