Thanks. I really enjoyed doing that one. But I have to admit, I am really glad this CD is finished. This was very much out of my comfort zone and very hard to do.Bansaw wrote: Thu Jun 11, 2020 2:26 pm Memo...
Really good. Some good rhythmic elements, dissonant chords and melody. Cool symphonic ending.
Very creative.![]()

I can’t wait to hear your next album! Going by the votes, the actual music choice voters, it should be disco with 10 votes. I feel bad for you that people want you to stop making music, I mean, you’ve been doing it for a really long time, I’d say keep going, you always have interesting songs.
The last few NIN style songs definitely are unique, the bubbling sound in the final track is pretty cool!

The last poll option was there just to give everybody an option.Music Bird wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2020 9:20 am I can’t wait to hear your next album! Before I get to the poll winner, I have to finish Outtakes II. I have 3 of 16 songs done so it's going to be a long time before I get to the poll winner. So there's still time for something to overtake disco.

I wonder what is next in the outtakes? I hope you try some more unusual genres.

4th track from my upcoming CD "Outtakes II"
Needed to do a nice, easy, laid back short one after all that NiN stuff.
Just Do It
You're always bitching
That nothing gets done
You're always bitching
You never have fun
Just do it
Get out and go
Just do it
Put on a show
Just do it
Don't say no
Just do it
So that you'll grow
You keep complaining
The world's a mess
You keep complaining
Guys in a dress
Repeat Chorus
There can only be change
When you take an active part
You have to be the one
With you it has to start
Repeat Chorus 2x

That clav bass really adds some flavor, I also think you should check the website Michael L posted.

Thanks. Already aware of the site and others like it. There aren't too many musical genres I'm not familiar with.Music Bird wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2020 5:34 pm That clav bass really adds some flavor, I also think you should check the website Michael L posted.

5th track from my upcoming CD "Outtakes II"
Story behind this song. I was checking my email and after deleting all the junk I got my usual message "This Folder Is Empty" and suddenly I thought to myself, why not use that for a song title. My wife kind of rolled her eyes as the title is pretty stupid, but then a flash of inspiration came to me and the result is, what I think, one of my best songs. Certainly one of the catchiest.
I had about 6 different masters of this until finally deciding on this one. I am curious to hear what you think.
This Folder Is Empty
I waited forever for an email
I waited for you to write
I checked and checked all day
And paced the floors all night
But every time I looked inside
My disappointment I could not hide
This folder is empty
This folder has nothing for you
This folder is empty
And there ain't a thing I can do
I can wait and wait for years
But all I'll end up with is tears
This folder is empty
You promised me you would always love me
You promised me the world
So I waited for your confirmation
That you would be my girl
Repeat Pre Chorus and Chorus
Maybe I should look elsewhere
Maybe it's time to move on
Maybe this was a mistake
Whatever we had was gone
Repeat Chorus

6th track from my upcoming CD "Outtakes II"
This is kind of a jazzy hip hop tune. Maybe Jazz Hop???
Anyway, kind of laid back and cool. Well, as cool as I can possibly get.
Can You Chill To This
Kicking back with a cold beer
Knowing the remote is near
Bag of chips is all I need
And so I close my eyes
And much to my surprise
This is such peaceful bliss
Can you chill to this
Netflix she's got all my shows
What I'll watch hey heaven knows
Bag of chips is all I need
And so I close my eyes
And much to my surprise
This is such peaceful bliss
Can you chill to this
I don't know why I feel this way
All I know is I love to play
You don't care anyway
And so it's time to go
When I'll be back I don't know
You can have my bag of chips
And you can close your eyes
And you can be surprised
Can you feel the bliss
Can you chill to this

I must admit, I am astonished at how many songs you write on different subjects. I don't know if you read a lot of fiction and it comes from that, or just you have a creative mind. It takes me a while to come up with a song theme and lyrics.
The NiN stuff wasn't my cup of tea, a bit dark for me, but y our other stuff is generally interesting to me because of the lyrics and arrangement.
Folder
2:40 liked the introduction of the strings there, very nice
Chill
Nice vibe and arrangement. Would like to hear this with a different singer and production.
2:23 nice saxophone

It comes from having listened to music since 1964. That and simply having a bit of an imagination.Bansaw wrote: Mon Jun 15, 2020 9:47 pm I must admit, I am astonished at how many songs you write on different subjects. As for the singer comment, I'd like to hear a lot of my stuff with a different singer. I never wanted to be a performer. I still don't want to be a performer. The group that was supposed to do some of my songs, well, who knows what's up with that now that the world is in lockdown. Most likely that's going to fall through the cracks.
So until I get my big "break" (ha) I'll just keep cranking out my own stuff the best I can.
Now I have to think about what I'm going to do for track 7. So far, nothing is coming.

wagtunes,
Thank you for the reviews! Did you say you didn't have a guitar? Huh? Now listening to 'This Folder is Empty': the lyrics are a bit sad, though the instrumental is up-beat. This is classic wagtunes: nice melodies throughout. Vocals are pretty good. Are the background vocals vocoder, or your voice with lots of effects (nice)? I think I hear some female sampled background vocals (nice). I like the strings: high & low notes. Instrumentally, all nicely done. Partially 60's/partially 70's vibe (ELO) for me. Nice recording & song!

wagtunes,
Now listening to 'Can You Chill to This': piano, strings, and especially the sax sound very good. Not sure if you used a synth or Modo Bass on this? I might have used a less resonant bass sound, but it's OK as is. Though the synthy bass fits with the drum beats. Yes, you are correct, I liked 'This Folder is Empty' better overall. Though this is still a nice song.

I used to have a Squire Strat but I sold it a while ago when I needed some cash. I now use Music Labs and Vir2 guitars mostly.aaron aardvark wrote: Tue Jun 16, 2020 5:17 am wagtunes,

The background vocals are sung through Antares Avox. It's more a harmonizer than a vocoder.
The female sampled vocals are Realitone Realivox Ladies. They sound really great and are very flexible.
The strings are the new BBC Discovery that I'm trying out. I might get the core library someday.
Thanks for the listen and the feedback.
