Once your Cat is finished, are you planning to share also an editable version with the world e.g. on donationware-basis?
Hope so, really cool:) I started making presets right away.
If there's really interest then I could publish it as donation ware with edit on, for sure.
I bet, it still be lots of work for you to figure out my design decisions and how everything works together.
And I don't really have experience with "donation ware". Does this work with paypal? Or do I have to setup a patreons account ... any input appreciated.

pizzatime wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2020 11:16 am I agree - I would love a series of articles / tutorials about what each module does and good uses for it.
Would be a great overview for everyone and could be updated as new modules are added.
DITTO! Been needed from the start, IMO. But better late than never:)
Actually my synth is only 1/3 about the modules and 2/3 about how to setup the modulation pages and the multiparameters. Anyway I think you are right - Tutorials would be very helpful to get all the different facets of MSF. I will think about the idea of tutorials and how it could work for me. Would "text/forum" based tutorials accompanied by example/demo patches make sense for you guys? I have to admit that I don't have the equippment and time to produce videos like chandler does :-(
David wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2020 6:00 pm Easy to get some really crazy s&*t from this thing, Peter!
Yes, it is easy. Thanks David ... Please don't do to many presets right now. I don't know wether they will be usable with the final version ... still some work to do.

I'm making good progress. I have added ADSR, AR and LFO controls.
Still missing is the s&h control, oscillator sync and some oscillator controls.
I bet I can make a beta by the end of coming week.

But the thing I saved as a Global Preset from your post will still work as is, I expect and hope!

Not being editable, I couldn't save a new device from it, but the global preset I saved was still accessing the Device, and the device presets I'd made, so whatever new versions you make won't somehow replace or get confused with this one I played with, assuming they have a slightly different name, fingers crossed:)

Also, I loaded it into my FX-only device, and exported that, so THAT process should preserve it, and the presets. So I've now got these files:
PHU_CAT_003 DPC inside MMFX.mInstrument
PHU_CAT_003 DPC inside MMFX.presets

I was pleased and a bit surprised that the code pastes and the attachment were all loading as the same device, but still it's all a bit confusing, this device/global thing, esp. once device presets get involved…

Most donation ware SW I've seen was distributed via the owner's page with the possibility to donate via PP. Here's a well-known example: https://www.fullbucket.de/ :)

I don't think you need special equipment to make a Chandler-style vid. If you are using Win10, there is already a build-in desktop recorder, just click Windows+G, while your DAW is opened.
But a forum based text tutorial would make it too! Especially whith added patches, this would be perfect, because this is the part I always miss when watching YT tutorials. And there are some really great written-form tutorials I really like, beacuse you can use the like cheatsheets. See this example: https://www.musicradar.com/how-to/how-t ... e-your-mix

Text /forum posts would be great for me.. anything really if you are up for doing that!

Here's a little update - it's close to the finish line ;-)

I have added several controls, like
  • OSC 1 "audio on/off", which allows you to use OSC 1 as a sort of LFO, or just as Sync Input
  • OSC 1 "keyfollow on/off"
  • OSC 2 synced to OSC1
  • Noise Level
  • Filter "keyfollow on/off" (this is different to the original CAT. There's a keyfollow level. But actually, I have reached the limit of the Modulator pages ... and my MSF skills ;-)
Only thing troubling me is that I have problems exporting a device. Right after the very first "Do you really want to export an device?" page, the wizard closes without any feedback...

Yes, Bitwig 3.2.1. Thanks for the information!

If you want to listen - For the sake of fun I have thrown together 7 of my cats.
Main purpose was to check out whether drums are possible as well.
Please take this as a draft, no mixing, no EQ, just some Delays added on top. The recording is rather low in volume. Please turn it up a bit ... and after listening don't forget to turn it down again ;-)

Pretty cool, sounds way better than the first draft. Give us some more cats ;)

Little Update for the "MSF Cat Synth"
I had to do some changes because the setup of the modulation was not optimal.
Additionally I have added ...
  • ADSR Retriggering on the VCA... LFO speed retriggers the envelope. This is quite nice in combination with S&H modulation of the filter cutoff.
  • 12/24 db switch for the Filter.
I would name this already a beta version. I will do some "testing" and then povide a beta export.
Please pm me if you're interested in doing a little beta before the final release.

And please check out the new addition to the Demo Track. Second half at around 30 seconds.

Sorry for teasing again. After contacting Melda for FB, I got "some". That led to a new version which integrates in the "instrument device template" and thus provides global parameters and a full blown fx section... Crazy shit, and all was prepared and ready to use out of the box ;-)
Did several updates to the demo track accompanying the development. The track is only different versions of my cat and some Delays and EQs and a "master" chain.

I spot a couple of things that could be improved in the GUI, like panel alignment and type, etc. If you wanted to send it to me, I will send back with a few adjustments, you can then choose if you want to keep anything I changed.

Tyrs wrote: Tue Jun 09, 2020 7:08 pm I really like the idea of recreating synths in MSF and a good recreation would finally prove MSF's usability. Now I unfortunatley don't know the original synth, but this device you've build has definitley character. Most devices, which are included in the MSF package sound (at least for my ears) often little boring and the presets are only little variations of the main sound. In your device I could make really good sounding presets within seconds. I have also noticed, while tweaking, that the synth produces lots of unforeseen noise, what I personally like a lot, as it reminds me of the chaos in the universe ;) The only question is, if the original behaves the same way. If not, then someone might feel like this device is little buggy.

Yes, yes
I’ve not really used it in a while, but I remember thinking the filters all sound very basic. It’s a synth that you have to work at to make it sound particularly characterful. I’d love to see it get some classic filter models.
