I make trap/hiphop (minority here), and Ana is such a joy to use, and the price is cheap.

EDIT: I also think that ANA is much better than stock plugins, so this can be somewhat misleading

I wanted to share this. It's a cover of a song by The Cure that I was working on and I only got to the first preset in ANA2 before I found the perfect lead patch for it. And that was after using the same patch in another song I've been working on, where it sounds quite different (a more up-tempo song with a fuller arrangement).
The drums are Ujam's BM Vice, the bass is Ujam's VB Rowdy, the pad is HY-Poly (HY Pad 6) and the lead is ANA2. There are no external effects being used, not even EQ. Everything is exactly how it comes out of the plugin. I did a bit of work on both the drums and bass but the two synths are just raw presets. I was already happy with it but ANA2 has taken it to a whole new level.

The original track has a punchier drums and softer pads. I believe here OBXa pads can be fantastic
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

I don't want to sound like the original, the Cure already did that. interestingly, though, my bandmate thinks our drums are too punchy compared to the original but I will probably get rid of them altogether before I'm done, at least from the first half of the song. I want it to start off in a very minimal vein, probably just the pad with the filter closed a bit more, and build to a full arrangement, so bass and drums won't come in until just before, or maybe even after, the ANA2 part starts. I'll probably find a way to get some guitar into it, too, just because I can and I recently bought a couple of new Kontakt guitar instruments that might sound interesting.

I just realised that the original doesn't have that ANA part in it. I found a MIDI file on line and used that as a basis for my version but I hadn't listened to the original in years until just now. Well, whoever put it in there did it very nicely, so thank you to whoever it was.

Maybe "punchy" is not the word really! The original has higher frequencies in the snare I think.

Yeah, the original toms are much higher pitched. I turned the pitches on mine down as far as they'd go.

Ok dumb question time. Let's say I set the scale to A# Maj should I then program all my arp notes in C (ie, ANA2 will then transpose to the right key)? Or should I enter them at the root note of A# still? I assume the former.

Ok, so explain this to me like I'm an idiot (fair assumption).
Let's say I want an arp in the scale of B-flat Major:

I would:
a) select A# Maj as the chord preset
b) hold A# on the keyboard?
If so, why is Note 2 in the Arp playing a D and not a C? Similarly Note 3 is playing an F and not a D
Remember, music theory is not my forte if I'm doing something stupid.

Thanks Phil. I've since discovered I need to hold down all notes of the chord in the piano roll for my arp to play those notes. I assumed the arp would pick this up from the chord selection.Phil Sonic Academy wrote: Sun Jun 21, 2020 6:32 pm If it’s in single mode to play the A# you should play a C
