Probably not.
Distortion and chords usually don't mix well.

Post

Guitars mix distortion and chords all the time, especially in Metal! What would be distortion without all the difference tones you get with chords? I’d say to the contrary without chords its a bit boring, just changing a bit the overtone structure. Same for blues harp unimaginable without chords into distortion...
Though scaler wouldn’t help much there...; - )

Thanks for posting this. I updated the other day, but couldn't find the log anywhere. From where did you get this?

By the way, I noticed that when I open Scaler 2 in FL Studio it opens with a black screen for a second or so before the GUI shows up. Using the VST3 version, Windows 10 Pro. Anyone else noticed it?

oh I am probably late - I've missed the notification of your reply, sorry! - however, the list was taken from this site (it's the official Scaler plugin forum) - https://forum.scalerplugin.com/t/scaler ... n-updates/

No problem, thank you for the link. :tu:

Holy shit the 2.1 point upgrade adds so many cool extras.

Slash chords
Easy chord editing
Non 4/4 phrases and rhythms
Pattern mode now plays through lassoed patterns
Higher arp octaves

But, for me the absolute cherry on top is the Neo-Reimannian stuff that lets you drag in a chord and offers natural sounding paths to the next chord e.g. via parallel minor, leading tone, common third etc.

Hi,
Someone could tell me where i could download the scaler 2.2 update? The servers in the pluginboutique are completely unusable, it gives me 5-90 days of download time. (Every other site is OK, it just doesn't download from here.) I managed to download 8 of 772 MB in 3 hours, but it refuses to go any further.
Does anyone know an alternative download path? A mirror?

Doubtful as they are the makers. It's probably just rammed servers, give it a few hours or try again tomorrow. This happens with just about every release these days, the servers are f**ked for a while as they haven't got enough capacity.

Thanks for the info, that it will be only available through pluginboutique servers.
Too bad it's still unusable. Maybe tomorrow...

On the positive side 2.2 adds bass and melody options similar to Captain Chords so should be fun to play with.

How do you use Scaler2? Does it make notes or do I need to add a note generator before?

I wonder, do you solely use Scaler2 to generate riffs and notes or do I need to add a note generator plugin beforehand in the Ableton chain to generate interesting melodies out of nothing?

I'm looking for the shortest route to generate melodies that will get me started instantly, with some randomness that still fits within a certain key. I have most M4L plugins but I'd rather say with a normal plugin (like the Quad Note Generator in Reason) to save time.

I mean if it is I must be really stupid because I can't seem to be able to generate any sound with it, even loading an instrument in DAW with it (before in the chain).

To me it looks more like a slightly more advanced sort of the Scale stock plugin in Ableton.

But it's missing the Midi generator/Sequencer I'm looking for, stuff like Max for Live (eg. Ultimate Ztep Zequencer 2), or J74 Step sequence/Arpline, Audiomodern Riffer/Playbeat, Midi Madness, InstaChord/Captain Chord, HY-SEQ16/Collection2, etc... am I missing any?

For the melodic riff I need something simple enough yet:
- a bit advanced like polyrhythmic or with enough variations to get me started in my tracks with some inspiring sounds right from the start
- which can evolve over time with some random features... but somewhat keeping a certain degree of control on the randomness parameters
- being able to stay in a certain key and having the key transpose feature is a plus
- being able to export the Midi files generated

In the hardware world only the Polyend SEQ seems to be able to do what I'm looking for? But it's 1'200 EUR and out of stock. Or the NDLR from Conductive Labs? I only have a Keystep Pro but it's just a basic keyboard, far from all the needs mentioned above.

If you can help much appreciated.

I use it almost exclusively for building chord progressions. I pick my key, then my scale and mess around until I come up with some progressions that I like, using the built-in inversion editing to help with the voicing and then use the drag export function to get the MIDI into the DAW, to use with my various patches.

Feeding in notes is optional, the only time I do it is if I've created a lead line and I want to find the closest matching scale so I can build some chords for it, since it has a detection mode (works for audio too, but haven't tried it personally). Normally I just press the pads or use the playback mode to listen to the progression I have made.
Always Read the Manual!
