Okay sorry for the advertising, but I think this could benefit many users:

I created a dedicated midi controller for U-He DIVA with the novation LaunchControl XL and BOME. This template comes with a hardcover and all the software needed to make your LaunchControl XL work like a true hardware synth.

My idea is to make the Novation LaunchControl XL function as the ultimate midi controller for U-He's Diva (and to make a dedicated controller that people can actually buy). To do this, I build a custom MIDI template (with BOME) that translates all the LaunchControl XL's midi messages into all kinds of relevant MIDI data for Diva. I also designed a hardware cover that fits on top of the LaunchControl XL and this has all the new functions printed.

"So, it's standard MIDI mapping?", you're know probably thinking. Well, it's not. My script sits in between the Novation controller and the Diva plugin, creating much more functions and possibilities than the native LaunchControl XL's midi mappings. A simple example with what you can do with this is that you can select LFO waveforms with buttons. A more complex example is the Modulation Routing page, that lets you assign 16 modulation sources to all kinds of destinations. Also, knobs and buttons can have multiple functions, depending on the menu you're in. As a result, my template lets you control more than 130 DIVA parameters on a very intuitive hardware interface.

It would be great if some of you would support this. Let me know if there are any questions!

I was just thinking about a hardware controller for Diva today. I still get very impressed by the sound but I miss the hands on.
A real dedicated layout matching the gui would be nothing less than awesome. But this might be good enough..
Can you create a video where you show it in detail? (I hope this does not require that Automap crap, if it is still a thing with Novation)

Not to hijack the thread, but in 2012 an experimental Diva controller was demoed:

Sorry I'm new to this forum and I don't think my links get posted. I did actually create the controller with a Novation LaunchControl XL and Bome, together with a hardcover. This makes it a controller you can actually buy ;)

More info on Kickstarter (search for DIVA CTRL).

For convenience, I did edit my first post to add more information about this project.

Video also available on Kickstarter or Youtube (watch?v=yOEXPTcNuBA)

Just for anyone interested. The project will include the following:

• custom BOME player for OSX and Windows (so you don't need to buy this separately)
• aurex BOME preset for U-He DIVA (for correct MIDI mapping)
• aurex LaunchControl XL preset
• Novation Launchcontrol XL - printable PDF cover for U-He DIVA
• Novation Launchcontrol XL - hard cover for U-He DIVA
• software and manual (on USB stick)

No worries, the link is there in your first post.
I'm actually kind of interested, too. But would first like to test the Launchcontrol XL itself before spending 30€ on your improvements.

I mean this does not sound bad at all. Possibly more hard covers are in the making?

When I invest the 30€ now, will you anyway make the hard cover even if you don't reach the goal of 8000€?

Post

Hi. Thanks for your interest.

Yes I'm already thinking about other synths too, but don't expect this for the near future. This project took several months of fulltime programming and testing to get it as good as it is now. It's - really - complex with all the possibilities, pages and options. But it works like a breeze, I really forget I'm programming a plugin. In fact, the controller isn't even near my screen, it sits next to my Nord A1 and feels right at home :)

I like open and honest communication so here's why I need the money:
If I don't reach my planned funding goal, I need to examine how much people are willing to invest in this. I need the money to invest in the licensing of the BOME software, the hard covers (if you buy these in small amounts it gets super expensive so I need to buy in large quantities), costs for posting these all over the world, usb sticks, ... and it would be great if I could earn some money for all my months of hard work :) So the problem is, that if only 16 people (for example) are interested, I can't cover all the costs I have to make in advance. That's why I started this campaign, I really need a start capital to make this work.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Yes I understand. Still interested. Anyway owning the full BOME software already, so only interested in the script + Cover, but would pay anyway.
I see your hard work, doing a BOME script can take days and weeks to get it right, in the end you're doing a new user interface.
And really think these 30€ are good invested, as you are using it yourself and are interested to continue to support it.
I'd give you the 30€ even if I wont get the hard cover, so maybe you will continue to do this also for RePro and Hive. :)

Edit: Pledged now.
So have to get the LaunchControl XT next.
Maybe you could give the script out for testing/enjoyment before October? :)

Also there's an U-he Sound designers Facebook group where you could post this project, guess there would be many interested too.

Hey many thanks for the advice and facebook link, really appreciate it!. I'm currently contacting all the resources you mentioned, hopefully someone will pick this up and spread the news :)

I'm sending you a PM.

Hi,

I like the idea..but if it's just for Diva...not sure I will buy this novation controller...
If your Diva controller project works (enough people)
Which synths do you plan to add ? and will your prices decrease as your Bome soft will be paid ? (something around 20 instead of 30)

I would love one for Tyrell, Repro and Sylenth 1 my 3 favorites with Diva (also Ace.. )
An other thing to consider is that Diva 2 will probably comes in the next 2 or 3 years...which will have more parameters to controls.... but maybe a Novation LaunchControl XXL with more controls will come out until this time. ^^

Post

Hi Akira. I can't see the future, so I'm afraid I can't comment on DIVA2 or a Launchcontrol XXL ;) But if there's enough interest, of course I will try to cover new plugins. For now, I'm focusing on DIVA because U-He did allow users to control almost every parameter via MIDI. That's why some plugins are less ideal - for example: some plugins don't allow you to change the oscillator waveform via MIDI mapping. Last I checked, Serum is one of them. So you wouldn't be able to control the osc wave with the controller, and that is a big disadvantage I think.

If a plugin company decides to work with me to allow for midi mapping everything and letting users import a midi map (so I can share these) I will of course be very interested to create a cover for that plugin too. My goal is to work on DIVA now, but because you can replace the hard cover very easy it would be cool to have multiple covers and templates in the future. That way you can swap them out for the synth you're working on. I just have to do some research about which plugins let you control every single parameter via MIDI.

"I just have to do some research about which plugins let you control every single parameter via MIDI."

Probably all U-HE products so my wish could come true ?
Tyrell N6, Repro & Ace...

also Hive 2 but not sure this controller could do the the job for this one.
Did you think about some better controllers as faderfox ? ok it's not the same price but it's quality and a lot of controls
http://www.faderfox.de/pc12.html
http://www.faderfox.de/mx12.html
we could get all controls without going in sub menus

Post

I do like the Faderfox controllers myself, but I'm afraid the sales market would be too small to make this work. A controller of more than 450 € / $ is just too much for most people. And actually I do like the Launchcontrol very much. I think the quality of knobs and buttons is really good and it's super cheap (around 150 euro) for what you get - which is LOTS of hands on control :D

This is a great idea. I'm on the fence, since I don't yet own a LaunchControl XL. I would suggest that the more U-He synths you create templates for, the stronger the market for them will be. (people seem to "collect" U-He software like pokemons) A pack of templates for all my U-He synths would definitely convince me!
You are not a beautiful snowflake.

100% agree :tu:
at least Tyrell N6 (easy to map), Repro1-5 (easy to map), Ace (easy ?)
they are also analog emulations
