Yes, it is worth getting. :) Actually, it's a no-brainer. One of the best soft synths for me (I know I repeat myself).

Post

Just noticed that it comes with additional soundbanks in library besides the factory presets :dog:

Post

Yes loads of additional soundbanks

I hadn't noticed them to start with either

nvm

Can't find the synths from PA store?
I heard the Wolfgang Palm Synth will be available around September 2020.
Ah ok thx.. Time to wait some PA deals then and grab'em for -80% price and some coupon :D

Hopefully it is capable of some cool stuff, seems it in the way it works.
Hopefully someone will do some modern preset packs with the increased popularity and visibility from the sale. The included presets are now a decade old.

Largo is one of the synths that Aiyn Zahev recommends for its sound quality especially for dance music.

A bit Blofeldish sound. Maybe the biggest difference can be heard in pads etc since Blofeld only has 25 polyphony (which are used quite quickly if using unison).

Aiyn Zahev can make an awesome trance lead of a cat's fart.

But I dowloaded the demo yesterday and was quite impressed, the synth does have a lot of character unlike Serum and other currently popular WT synths.

I don't like that it can have only two effects per a patch (and the effects don't sound very good, especially the overdrive and delay/reverb but I can always use external ones) and the envelopes seem somewhat soft (I did try recursive modulation for boosting the attack, it does help but not a lot) but other than that the core sound quality seems very good. It has some kind of sci fi vibe which I like a lot, I can see it has a lot of potential for various evolving pads, atmospheres and morphing sequences. Overall it has a kind of "hardware" sound to it which somewhat reminds me of the WT part of Virus TI.

I quickly skipped through the factory presets, most of them seem an odd choice to showcase the synth, you can hear the sound quality but most of the presets seem deliberatly ugly and unmusical.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

tbh it's about the price of a soundbank

Bargain really

It definitely has a unique character

I've found the top end sounds quite different if you enable DAW oversampling

Apart from the thing with the envelopes, I fully agree with this (I think the envelopes are great actually). The fx aren't really good, but then, I rarely use the synth's onboard fx. The presets are mostly useless for me. It's strange that so many soft synth developers include such a amount of absolutely out of this music world presets, which probably noone ever uses in his music. Again, I don't really mind though, because presets are not what it's about for me.

I don't think they are bad, I just wanted them to have a bit more "bang" for certain sounds.

But it was only a 2 hour session, I see it has aux envelopes so I'll try to make something of these. Or maybe it was just the first wrong impression.

I used to think OG Massive had the most useless factory presets but Largo seems to take the cake :D

Your impression with the envelopes might be because Largo only has exponential curves, and there's no way to change it, as far as I know. Even though that's a bit weird, because, exponential envelopes have more bang than linear ones usually, not less. :)

Try to crank up the resonance a bit, and try some short filter decay time sounds. I think Largo has more bang than most other soft synths. But, maybe our definition of "bang" just differs, hehe.

Thanks for the explanation! I'll sure spend more time with it, maybe it was (another) user error :)

Well, it seems that the $5 extra voucher is a generic one (received the same code in an advertisement on facebook), so here we go: APD-E1047-S622-LRG
