Filter MIDI events in Mulab 7.x?

Hi, quick question; is there a way to filter events by type, or event? E.g. filter out note off events?

Post

What I need it for at the moment: I record MIDI from a synthesizer, but it sends note-on and note-off messages almost instantly (that's how its drum pads work). Mulab somehow struggles with that and while the note monitor shows the events correctly, the instruments that receive it will sometimes play, sometimes not. So I want to filter out the note-offs and see what happens. Ideally I would delay (the note-off events only).

No such filter module yet.

Understood, thanks for confirming.

For my urgent need described above, I have found a solution in using InsertPizHere's MIDI VST plugins:

I used the MidiNoteTrigger, and turned it off to set it to feed in to out, and that somehow solves it for me, so:

[very short notes events from midi] --> [synth]
Many notes are not played by the synth.

[very short notes events from midi] --> [InsertPizHere VST] --> [synth]
Fixed, all notes are audible.

Hi Paljas, I too found that several of the midiPizHere plugins solved the problem, just by being there. Interestingly, I found that MT Power Drummer worked without the need for any in-line plugin. Same went for the built-in drums in Cubase Elements. Glad you got sorted.

I'm not sure if i fully understand the topic here. If you're saying that MuLab does something wrong with very short notes then please share a little MuProject only using an internal MUX synth that demonstrates this very short note issue. Or does this issue only happens with certain specific VST plugins, thus being it an issue of that VST plugin?

Hi mutools,

I have only seen it with ancient Yamaha connected to MIDI in. Its drum pads have this kind of behavior. I will try and see if I can capture the raw MIDI through some other means.. but I would have to set it up again. Perhaps it has to do with may M-Audio Axiom being in between (midi out - midi in - usb - pc).

Just gave it a go, used http://www.midiox.com, not sure how direct this monitor is from the MIDI in source, but attached is the log file of a few drum pad presses. You can see that the note off is only 1-2 time units after the note on. In Mulab, when connecting the midi in directly to most synths (I believe at some point I stumbled upon an exception.. don't ask me which mux that was.. can't remember), I get intermittent reaction from the synth, will ignore more than half of the notes. I can see that all the notes are registered fine in the Mulab event monitor though. It's just the synth that doesn't pick it up.

Thx for elaborating Paljas, i now fully understand what this topic is about. I had a detailed look at it and changed something in the next M8 version that might make a diffference. That's M8 though. There will be no updates for M7 anymore, sorry.

No problem.
