Cool track! (You Make The World Go Boom). Reminded me of Death in Vegas,The contino sessions on parts. Great production as usual. :tu:

Death in Vegas are one of my fave bands but The Contino Sessions is probably my favourite album. :)

Boom
Like the contrast between the edgy minor key verse and the major chord verse. Also like the synth-flute lead, and acidic elements in the verse.
Enjoyed it :tu:

Thanks. Had a lot of fun doing this one but was a nightmare to mix. Tons of stuff going on in the chorus, especially the last one.

Piano
Bass
Drums
Rhythm Electric
Lead Vocal
3 Sets Of Background Vocals
2 Lead Synths
2 Pads
Celli
Violins

PS - The verse is actually A major but it's really hard to tell because I'm only singing two notes (A and C#) and the whole thing is an A arpeggio on the root. Listen carefully and map out the melody and you'll see. Makes it a little tricky to hear whether it's major or minor but no question it's major as C# in the major 3rd in the key of A. Had I gone down to C instead of C# in the melody, then it would have been minor.

11th track from my upcoming CD "Outtakes II"

Typical 70s rock album filler track. My goal for this one was to make sure the vocals were really up front so there are 5 vocal tracks in total.

Coming Up Empty

I try to think
My head is coming unglued
I start to sink
And it's all cause of you
Rattle my cage all night
It's what you do

There's nothing there
The thoughts are jumbled for sure
And then you stare
You couldn't be more demure
All that is dark no light
You know it's true

Wrack my brain
Go insane

Coming up empty
There's just nothing left inside of me
So why don't you just set me free
Cause I'm coming up empty

You think you've won
You get real cocky and then
I get my gun
And you'll never know when
But I forget how to
Pull the trigger on you

It’s almost guaranteed I’ll have one of these songs stuck in my head after scanning through your thread. I enjoyed Sock Puppet very much, musically especially (arturia v?) the lyrics are ‘bad’, but in a quirky and tongue in cheek way. Latest track didn’t do much for me.

I voted classic rock btw, would be funny to hear your take on zeppelin  :phones:

12th track from my upcoming CD "Outtakes II"

Bit of a story here.

About 40 years ago, I formed a group called Rubber Water.

Me - Keyboards
Rich Friedman - Guitar
Paul Herman - Flute
Mark Karas - Lead Singer
Mike Walton - Drums
Lenny Herman - Lyrics

Rich and I would take turns writing music to Lenny's lyrics.

This song, Rich did on his own without the rest of the group. He just played it on the guitar and sang into a cassette recorder. It was a lousy recording but a great song. Well, at least I always loved it. And I always wanted to do my own version of it but never quite got around to it.

Well, 40 years later, I finally sat down, learned this song and, trying to stay as true to the original as possible (except for the finale and some added instruments) this is the end result. I don't have Mark's or even Richard's voice, but I think I did a decent job on it. I had absolutely nothing to do with the composition so I think it will be pretty obvious that this is very different from the music I normally do. Simulating Richard's finger picking on a virtual guitar was a real challenge. Figuring out some of his harmony was an even bigger challenge. Even though the song is just guitar, drums and vocals and some orchestration at the end, this was a real challenge for me.

Rich hasn't heard it yet. I hope he likes it. It's still one of my favorite songs to this day. I always said that he was the one with the talent in the group.

Would really love to know what you think.

Doctor's Advice

Oh doctor fill my prescription
Cause I’m feeling too much pain
I’m getting sick too often
Cause I’m in love again
I thought it would take a long long time
For this broken heart to mend
But now the feeling is back with me
And I’m in love again
I'm in love again

So what is there to do
Should I go and try it
What have I to lose
If I should just pass by it
Can’t someone give advice
On what is to be done
What is wrong or right
When love has again begun

Oh doctor have the answers
To avoid these sickly feelings
I hate recuperation
While my love life’s healing
There has to be a reason
Why my symptoms never end
And I guess I know the basis
I’m in love again
I'm in love again

This is a very good song with a great melody and chords. I think you are underselling it by calling it a filler track.

(I wasn't crazy about that very upfront typically 80s synth bass but that is just a matter of taste.)

Thanks Frantz. I don't know. Melody seems kind of meh to me but that's what makes music so wonderful. Everybody has different tastes. Glad you liked it. Sorry about the typical 80s synth bass. Didn't really notice it.

Coming Up Empty reminded me of the song ‘Abracadabra’ by Steve Miller Band.
The one which was your band’s song reminded me of yacht rock a la Michael McDonald.
I’d say the guitar on them sounds good!
Many paid and free VSTs as well as Kontakt libraries. As well as HW synths/drum machine and acoustic instruments.

13th track from my upcoming CD "Outtakes II"

Ironic that this song is track # 13.

No Luck No Love No Thanks

Headed out to Vegas for a game of chance
Met up with some honey and we did the dance
But I bet it all and then I lost my shirt
And man that was no honey underneath her skirt
No luck no love no thanks

Then I went to Belmont play the ponies there
Met a foxy baby with the blondest hair
My horse finished last because I bet the nag
And that baby she turned out to be a hag
No luck no love no thanks

Seems that I can't catch a break no matter what I do
Seems that I'm a loser ever since I met you
I can wait forever for my luck to change
Guess you think the things I do are really strange

Instrumental Break

Hopped into my car to find a place to eat
You were sitting next to me in the front seat
But I got a flat and never found that place
And you just looked at me with that sour face
No luck no love no thanks
No luck no love no thanks
No luck no love no thanks
