Frustrating because I love Ableton Live and want to love the company, but one can tell that they’ve lost a bit of a step over the years.

I also def doubt that you have to worry about Live 11 coming out anytime soon, btw.
I remember some people expressing things like this a while after 9 came out, and then the 9.5 update dropped and surprised everyone.

Not saying 10.5 is anywhere near, but I would be surprised if some of the point updates in 10.x don't bring awesomeness.

I agree that the long upate intervals are supposed to be an anomaly. It was quit public knowledge that they had to rework their codebase quit a bit + the Bitwig guys leaving, which eventually gave us Live 10 with a non rasterized GUI.

The last point update is already a whole year behind us, there really is no reason for them to take this long to introduce new features. If they really are going to release a lot of small updates that are included with your current license. 10.2 should be here already with minor new features.

Since they're taking so long it seems like the next version might turn out to be a paid upgrade featuring MPE, etc.

Yeah, I do wonder about the pace of Live's development. It's fine for me as is, does what I need, and does it quickly, but it seems it could fill out in other roles without compromising its sample-heavy, DJ/performance roots. I do think the KISS philosophy they chose (and I love) makes it more difficult to implement some features. Other factors would be mere speculation on my part.

As to Bitwig. I find it sexy as ****, and super fun to play with, but for traditional recording, which is what I do, it's just about the worst major DAW on the market, and for stupid little reasons that could've been addressed years ago.

Personally I find Bigwig much better than Live 10 at 'traditional' DAW duties, but I agree, it isn't what the Bitwig Dev's have been concentrating on, more of a niche market for modular heads and experimental sound guys (like me :-)), I think they are more focused on typical Live users more than the traditional songwriters/producers market.

I don't think Live or Bigwig will ever even try to be in the same space as traditional DAWS....but they will hopefully give us some of the more traditional aspects such as comping....that said, really cool and interesting updates every quarter from a Bitwig team of 3-4 developers is very impressive.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Could it be possible that Ableton faces a lot of pressure with their updates?
First, the latest Logic Pro X 10.5 update took a big junk out of Ableton playbook with the integration of Live Loops. In addition, this weeks announcement of the transition to Apple Silicon over the next two years adds additional developer man-hour that can't be used to improve their DAW or add new features.

I agree. The most requested features are MPE, ARA and comping. So if they do not deliver at least one of these with the next major update, it will be all hell breaks loose :D
Maybe that is why the next update is taking too long.

As Ableton is on the MIDI 2.0 committee, it would surprising indeed if they didn’t support it sooner rather than later.

What do you do in Bitwig about loop recording, comping, and time correcting audio?
