^Thanks, I think I’m definitely going with a CE type chorus. Rowin look like good stuff so will check out theirs too.

The Mosky Crazy Tone is based on the Suhr Riot and if I like it, I’ll probably buy a Suhr one. Still on the fence about the Op-Amp Big Muff Pi as it’s so closely linked to Corgan. Totally love the album (though prefer Gish & Lull) and sound but don’t want to replicate it.

As for boutique pedals, it really does depend. In my degree, I specialised in electronics and have designed and built a couple of pedals. I appreciate something that’s innovative or well designed and engineered but if there’s too much cost (over $200), marketing or hype, I’ll switch off. For example, an EHX LPB-1 is simplicity itself, cheap and sounds fantastic. A Subdecay Liquid Sunshine is pricey (but not crazy) but worth it as it’s well designed and you can tell the love given to it. I won’t go into the stuff I think is stupid but they generally have funny shaped cases.

The Donner Morpher sounds muffled compared to the Mooer solo, it might be a clone of a clone, gonna listen to the Mosky.
Came across this today for the first time. Valeton Lazaro Modern Fuzz and Aquaflow.

The Donner could be one of those cheaper versions of Mooer. It sounds useable though. The Mooer and Valetons sound better but are at the top end of what I want to pay.

At the other end is the Kmise US Dream, which looks like a take on the Joyo. It’s less than $20 (~£15) and has no mode switch. It sounds OK at best, if a bit generic. It’s nowhere near as good as the other Riotesque/Stack pedals. The Kmise Chorus sounds good though, if basic. Worth a go at £15.

Plenty to check out but not going to rush it, as it's supposed to be fun. Thanks for the links :tu: .

That's a regular sized pedal. Slightly larger is the tc electronic Echobrain. I cannot compare, but the Echobrain works fine as far as I'm concerned. More expensive, but might be worth considering if you find a used unit.
- built like a tank (unlike the plastic Behringers)
- slightly larger than regular sized pedals, connections on top; foot switch activates on release IIRC
- some people find it self oscillates too easily

The Mosky Blue Delay is based on the Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay and the spec says “100% Analog Circuitry”.

Keep in mind Valeton's Coral and Boss-style ranges are discontinued.
Ryan of 60 Cycle Hum recently mentioned another brand that went out of stock IIRC.

I'm in Belgium, the cheapest way to buy Chinese clones seems to be the many shops on Ali Express, prices fluctuate and vouchers are offered (I bought 3 units at once of the Mosky 250x for a small price reduction). Other resellers and the second hand market seem more expensive. Delivery takes weeks to months, I was refunded when some small stuff didn't arrive in time (I paid again when they did, but was by no means legally obliged, the shop couldn't even know the parcel had arrived).

Some of the pedals I had wishlisted disappeared there, too.

OTOH, new stuff keeps appearing, sometimes dethroning old faves.

I wonder how the global market will endure the current troubles, though. Even inflation/deflation may come into play, who knows? Also, the used market may well see more supply, with people going broke or worse. Volatile times.

Yay, a tiny pedal! Don't underestimate the importance of pedal size, Noodlist. As your collection grows, you'll appreciate that more and more. Especially for simple 3 button designs.

^^ There’s eBay sellers who offer 5% discount when you buy multiple pedals. I prefer the safety net eBay provides over Ali Express, so I don’t mind paying an extra buck for it. My budget is ~£200 including Power Supply (Mode Machines MM-9 £30), Pedal Board (£25) and final Amp/DI Pedal (Behringer GDI21 £25), so basically looking for 5 more pedals at ~£20 each. I already have the compressor (Xvive Lemon Squeezer £25).

Overall, I’m sure the global market is be OK, but the coming and going of brands is a little worrying. I only just heard of Kmise and the Tomsline stuff seems to be going.

Mosky Obsessive Drive and the Caline Orange Burst are 2 of the budget pedals I'm really happy about. That Valetons sounds above decent in the demos, to me at least, especially the chorus and green one. Not so mini, but should supply valve preamp tones is the Blackstar HT-DRIVE valve preamp with emulated speaker out and operates at 300V HT.

I was looking at the HT Drive, then I got my Carslbro TC60 working by giving it a bang on the top, then the power tubes started glowing again, even though I could have used the preamp out, thinking about it. I made a volume control for the loop to lower the preamp output, budget style.

^ I have a Blackstar HT-DUAL on my main board and am going to get the Mosky Ultimate Drive to try with it (eventually). I’d rather get the Ultimate than the Obsessive.

The new pedals are for a compact pedal board, as the Blackstar is on a big Gator one which isn’t easily portable.

Mosky Ultimate Drive looks awesome, and it's hand wired, sounds great in the demos.
What is your verdict on your Blackstar HT Dual?

It’s great. I’ve had it for years and it’s stayed my go to, on its own and with an amp. It's very flexible and takes pedals well. I haven’t changed the valve yet but been meaning to. I’m thinking Philips Jan spec, which I’ve used in other preamps.

I was thinking of dipping my toe in the water with a simple pedal build. I'm thinking something 1) easy, 2) with detailed instructions written for a layperson, and 3) cheap enough that if I screw it up or give up I won't be too annoyed at myself with the cost.

Any suggestions? I'm in the US, so I'm hoping for a kit that can be sourced from a US dealer (versus dealing with exchange rates and overseas shipping).
It's out of stock at the moment but this is literally what the BYOC Confidence Booster is made for:
