What kind of synth sound you guys prefer and use among guitars, basses so on for modern rock ?
And i don't mean old school 70s,80's famous synths, but modern synth sound in music production.
Need to hear subjective opinions and preferences from rock fans, cause my taste circulate from style to style experimenting and only difference is technical part. Thanks

Nothing like Hammond for rock and guitars. Additive synthesis synth/organ, never forget it.

Radiohead is a modern rock band and they use an Ondes Martenot, which was invented in 1928. That would make it a bit more old school than the 70s and 80s famous synths, which incidentally quite a few modern rock bands also use.VELLTONE MUSIC wrote: βTue Jun 23, 2020 8:43 am What kind of synth sound you guys prefer and use among guitars, basses so on for modern rock ?

βModern Rockβ is the term the local radio station in the San Francisco Bay Area used to describe the music they played in the late 80βs-early 90βs.

I normally use trance-y saw sounds actually.

But really, just try things. Get creative, do whatever works for you.

Hmm, What is modern rock guitar?
Most of what I hear is heavy metal detuned stuff. Rock never had a thing for synthesized guitar sounds. And when synth sounds are used they are primarily used on non guitar midi controllers as a separate instrument.
Synth sounds for the modern guitar player would prolly be wave sequenced.
Something that's wave sequenced. Like Dune or Sektor or the orginal Wavestation (KLC) or Korg Wavestate.
When I was in a rock cover band... (back in the 90's) I did double time as a guitarist and midi on guitar. The instruments sounds I used were based on the songs needs. B3 organ, strings, horn sections. and the occasional moog / Prophet / Oberheim.

Term 'rock' is too common, maybe had to write modern metal, anyway i found some of classic trance machines like Synth1,AIR Hybrid or Sylenth1 very suitable for any pop, rock, metal so on stuff.
I am modern guitarist and like to experiment with styles so classic rock isn't exactly may style of inspiration,if make a cover of old rock hit will be very electronish for sure.
Some electro or synth pop stuff are very interesting to be mixed with more metal sound.
Music is fantasy
Imagine mix between sweet pop and melodic metal (if it's posible):

Check out Celldweller. He pretty much layers most of his guitars with a synth like a Nord lead. makes it fat as hell and you can't tell where the guitar stops and the synth starts.

i always felt that modular and saturated and distored edgy works well with rock. I like the sounds of Monark and Serum.
