I wonder how they do it? I mean, you have to register to get a key, a new key is needed for each install, and you have to buy (and pay) before you can register. Mmmm...

Apparently Mackie simply donated them - where's the problem?

No problems, just wondering how they manage the registration thingy. Christmas is coming and this could solve a few gift problems.jens wrote:Apparently Mackie simply donated them - where's the problem?

If I were to buy from there, I'd contact Raw Material/Mackie first to make sure it's all legal...Ezy Ryder wrote:No problems, just wondering how they manage the registration thingy. Very suspect...
The 'charity' idea is one to throw people off, I'm betting. We don't like to think about questioning people that are trying to do something good. When you click their 'guarantee', you go to a site that's off eBay. If it was legit, wouldn't it be hosted on ebay.com?
Hrm...
Actually, there IS a link that's hosted on eBay...
I still dunno, but I'm leery. I don't know how to report it, or I'd contact someone just to be sure.

Well,
I just e-mailed the seller - whom I have heard of before as the House Ear Institute (they advertise in MIX, Electronic Musician, etc.) asking how they can sell them for this price.
My guess is that these are not-for resale versions, non-transferrable to new machines.
These were given away at the NAMM show last year. There is info on the Not For Resale versions on the Mackie/Raw Material site right on the front page.

Hey,
Through a series of phone calls, I found out these are legit copies, full boxed versions. The lady on the phone said that they will ship in about 10 days, after the Mackie folks have returned from AES.
I just won one of the copies for $34 +$8 for shipping( some dude almost sniped me!!! - probably hanging out here)
Several more copies are available.
Now I can use a real version instead of my not-for-resale version.

That's not fair, I thought that everybody in the tracktion forum would already own it
Now it seems I created competition for myself
Can I take back my post please?

Yeah, just want to make an official confirmation.
The E-Bay thing is legit. We donated a bunch of Tracktion licenses for an online auction to benefit HEAR - "sponsored" by Mix TEC Awards.
The shipping charge is relevant because HEAR will be shipping cd's w/ codes affixed whereby the purchaser can visit mackie.com to setup an account & get a traction license. It's a full fledged license - just like if they bought it online at mackie.com.
I hope this helps.
