Isn't that the case in most DAWs, though?

Also, are they actually connected? So if you select MIDI track in arranger the Aux track gets selected in console? Or if I'd drag an audio FX onto the MIDI track, will it be added to the Aux track? I was frankly very surprised in the way they've handled it. It's much more elegant in Bitwig, for example.
The Aux track is the midi track I think according to what they showed. So if you create an Aux track with your external synth set as the input it will be it's own kind of track. I haven't tested this yet since S1's site is borked but that's what I've seen in some videos.

I don't know if Bitwig's approach is more elegant, it's just different. Bitwig, Logic, Live have a very similar approach of using an external instrument plugin. While Presonus chose to make a whole track type from what I'm gathering.

It's cool. I was totally "that guy" when version 4 came out. Never upgraded my 3 license (well, until today). The only new feature in 4 that I wanted was the drum editor. And even then they built it upside down (kick goes at the bottom folks)! Wonder if they ever offered a reverse sort option for that...

According to sound on sound, V5 adds an Ableton live style clip launching view!

I managed to d/l and install v5 and I can't see any link between the 2 tracks (but I've not really tested it in-depth, it's midnight here :D).

That's why I think Bitwig's approach is more elegant, because functionally it works like a native or VST instrument - I send MIDI, I get audio on the other end and can put FX after the HW Instrument plugin, like I would in any other case. Also, if I change the name or colour of the MIDI track, the Aux track's properties should also be updated, but aren't.

I don't know if people remember, but all this same stuff happened with V4. Servers overwhelmed, people not able to see their existing products in their accounts, much less able to see and access their upgrades. I wish they would get their act together so I could subscribe to Sphere with confidence.

I assume that they mean the Show page.
I guess so. It kinda looks like clip launcher if you squint your eyes enough (or take glasses off, depending on your particular situation)...

I am very surprised this still happens in this day and age. I somehow managed to register my serial but the site has been pretty much consistently offline for the last 7+ hours.

Reminds me of Spotify’s clip launcher, the so called ‘Play Queue’

All the Aux track does is pipe audio from an external source without needing to create an audio track. It's a "virtual" audio track. So it's not really tied to the External Instrument midi track like I thought. Presonus can definitely address this a bit better but in practice the Aux track allows you assign effects, assign sends etc just like Bitwig can.

I think a Pipeline Instrument plugin would have been better but imo the Aux track works almost as well for my purposes.

I was finally able to register, install and activate the software. Seems like all those Europeans who were trashing the servers went to sleep :P.

Sound on Sound got it wrong.
As is often the case, the article does not support the headline.

Either they were confused by the new Clip Gain Envelopes, they wrote the headline last night, or they're just looking for clicks.

Wasn't that the point of the Pipeline XT?
You don't have a lot of hardware synths he ( casio arranger KB doesn't count ) , otherwise you would know pipeline XT is for hw effects , not synths
