Because this thread is about Zebra 3 and not comparing U-he products to every new synth on the map. If you like Knifonium, you should buy Knifonium.
Zebra (in general) is a different (deeper, semi modular) design concept with a much larger and broader sound range. Apples and Bananas.

For those that don't know , the O.G. knif audio knifonium is not a new synth , it's a couple of years old and costs around 16000 dollar , and it has pearly coated mini keys
It's a boutique synth for people with too much money to burn

Ya. Seems like Tony is teasing.VitaminD wrote: Tue Jul 07, 2020 10:41 pm Because this thread is about Zebra 3 and not comparing U-he products to every new synth on the map. If you like Knifonium, you should buy Knifonium.
Anyhow, maybe Repro would be the better comparison? It has been brought up in the Kniforium thread.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

I'm sure it's a fine instrument.
But Zebra is conceptually the opposite of chasing up on things that buzz.

Sorry guys, has "multiple outputs" already been mentioned as a FR?
There are very few synths out there which feature this (Absynth, VoltageModular, MSoundFactory, probably the upcoming VCV, don't know about Falcon), and it's something I'm really starting to appreciate.
Wouldn't make much sense on simpler synths, but to me it makes a lot of sense on "monster synths" like Zebra.

Too, funny! Any chance we will hear some audio samples of what you are working on?Urs wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2020 12:05 am I'm sure it's a fine instrument.

My current work deals a lot less with sound itself and more with sequence generation, such as combining simple means of sequencing and randomness to form more complex and (hopefully) interesting compositions and interactions.tony10000 wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2020 9:52 amToo, funny! This reflects in the hardware modules we're finalising as well as the equivalent functionality we're adding to Uhbik 2 and Zebra 3 (also added to Hive 2).
Two quick videos / audio samples of me performing such things live are here:
As such, I'm currently more concerned with conceptual work than actual sound. While I do think that u-he as a company has proven themselves as very capable in aspects of sound quality, my newly found understanding of modular synthesis makes me want to expand a lot more on the conceptual side of things - not necessarily for the more complex, but rather for the more accessible and virtuos.
As a musician, I'm quite happy with what I get out of 3 oscillators and a filter or two. I just need clever and inspiring things to make "it" happen.

I certainly get that and applaud the direction that you are taking. It seems to be quite different than what other companies are doing with the exception of the modular folks like Cherry Audio.Urs wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2020 11:50 amMy current work deals a lot less with sound itself and more with sequence generation, such as combining simple means of sequencing and randomness to form more complex and (hopefully) interesting compositions and interactions.tony10000 wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2020 9:52 amToo, funny! I love where this is going! May I make a suggestion: could Zebra 3 have a dedicated table devoted to selecting which notes are "active" in a scale, and can the number of steps in the table be related to the .tun file selected? So using a 19 note equal temperament scale would place 19 steps in the table, to select which notes would be triggered algorithmically.Urs wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2020 11:50 am My current work deals a lot less with sound itself and more with sequence generation, such as combining simple means of sequencing and randomness to form more complex and (hopefully) interesting compositions and interactions.

Can't promise that just yet. There's a conceptual problem if we wanted to make this automatable. In Hive 2.0 we have a single parameter that sets the state of 12 notes of a 12-tone scale, which has 4096 combinations. So that parameter has 4096 possible states. Each note more doubles this, so for a 19 note equal temp scale we'd need the parameter to go from 1 to 524288 and so on. At some point we'll reach issues with rounding errors, particularly in hosts which use weird resolution internally. So we'd either need more than 1 parameter in this case or we'd need to forgo automation.Ficciones wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2020 2:29 pmI love where this is going!
