Actions like, moving, grouping, deleting or creating tracks are done almost instantly in an empty project https://imgur.com/oSq6l34 (https://imgur.com/oSq6l34)

And in big projects they get annoyingly sluggish https://imgur.com/mUfHokN (https://imgur.com/mUfHokN). And this is only basic track stuff, moving an effect rack takes even longer.

The worst is when you're about to finish a song move something big but mouse slip, then you have to sit there and wait 20s just to undo to wait 20s more and move it where it belongs and wait 20s again, really kills the mood :(

Frankly, I can't see nothing out of the ordinary - for Ableton - in your gif:

Also, there's no info about your computer specs, screen resolution, etc.

For me the annoying thing that started with v10 was that when I open Ableton and - to a completely empty project - drag some native device then it waits 5-10s before it shows up, but then every new instance is added and shows up immediately. This doesn't happen with all devices, but definitely with some of the 'bigger' ones, like synths (Wavetable, Operator) or complex FX (Echo).

Have you tried Bitwig yet? ;)

Why do you have everything in one group SONG?

What happens with a project where you don't do that? Are there subgroups inside that big group?

That's not my .gif and not my video, so I'm not sure why you're asking that? But anyway, putting whole project in one group shouldn't be a problem (in terms of performance) - all your tracks already go to one group: master, that has to 'wait' with its processing until everything else is finished.

This is the first gif where, the project is empty. Watch the 2nd one where it's in a real project https://imgur.com/mUfHokN (https://imgur.com/mUfHokN)

I thought problem would appear on worse PCs sooner and on better ones later. Mine is what I'd consider a good i7-7700k and 16gb ram, so I didn't mention it

Yes :D and it doesn't have this problem but i feel like it's too different, could have some other issues I'm not aware of and I'm already invested in ableton sooooo.... I'm reluctant

Yup, the speed doesn't change if I ungroup the whole song, I did it for the convenience of the demonstration

I opened old 100+ tracks project, it tooks 3 seconds to rearrange the track order. I think it is just the way it is.

It's the same for me when the projects get big and taxing on the CPU.

I've noticed that there's something with the creation of tracks in Ableton that is just inherently slow. Even when you just duplicate a bunch of empty tracks (in an empty project) it comes to a halt pretty quickly, whereas in Reaper for example I can create 10 000 new tracks in 2 seconds. Deleting all those tracks takes less than a second. If I did the same thing in Ableton my computer would turn in to a potato.
Not exactly a real-world scenario but it's an interesting difference.

Reaper used to be really slow in this regard too, but they did some magic in a recent update and now it's a breeze.

Now... installing or updating Ableton....THAT is what takes a long time. An ungodly amount of time to be exact.

Opening projects in Ableton is the slowest out of any DAW I own. It's kind of ridiculous.
Studio One // Bitwig // Logic Pro // Ableton // Reason // FLStudio // MPC // Force // Maschine

Well, it actually did take long. I've not really touched Live since early 2018 and I sold it twice I think, but I was always buying it back 2nd hand (once I even profited around $50, so that's my 'earning from music' story right there ;) ) because I still had Push2 that - depsite great Bitwig integration - is still flawless with Live. Now that I've managed to sell both, I'm free :)

I’m there with you...I upgraded to 10 in the sale in a moment of weakness (I blame lock down  ) and it does work well with launchpad pro (better than Bitwig imho) and there are still a few Max instruments and sounpacks that I like so I boot it up every now and again.

Like you, I made the switch to Bitwig a few years ago and going back to use Live now is difficult, it is just so far behind Bitwig (and Logic) now in so many areas and development is so slow I don't think it will ever catch up....it just makes me appreciate Bitwig more!
