KVR is no one's audience except themselves.

There is no collective, merely a collection of angry little people who take out their frustrations on anyone they can (and Vurt)

All I keep saying is do a Wags record. Ignore all this stuff about styles and what anyone would ever think. Do a Wags record, so you can say, this is my record. It is a record of Wags at that time.

:-)

IMO what you have in the most recent soundcloud is perfect for the general function as far as I've seen it described.

Production is excellent, btw.
"Too loud" is a post-production decision you won't be making. In itself, the track does not grab you by the neck screaming for attention. At a lower volume, the more specifically happening VSL cymbals etc are not going to upset anybody.

Thanks Jan. As you can see, or maybe not, I've long abandoned this idea. I submitted my tracks to Music Vine, got rejected and packed it in. I just don't have the patience to wrack my brains trying to make it in this field. So I've gone back to writing pop tunes. It's a lot more fun.

I know I don’t. always seemed a waste of time to me, you don’t know what their decision making process is, except you know they’ll want the least challenge humanly possible.

Did you know that State of Independence was a huge influence on Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson?

In fact, We Are the World never happens without it.

Not only did I not know that, I never even heard of it. It wasn't a top 40 hit, was it?

one-week stay at number one in the Dutch Top 40,
sez wikipedia. topped at #41 here, that's the Billboard pop singles. #31 in black singles.

I didn't hear of it before late last year or early this year. There was some article with QJ where he said they stole the bass line for Billie Jean or something, and people are bitter because they have no sense of how innocuous a remark that is or what a bass line is.

But Mr Cairo is what they were listening to all the time then.

I bet you like this one:

Reminds me a little bit of a cross between Joni Mitchell and Sixpence & None The Richer. Yes, very nice. Never knew she did solo stuff. I do have one Corrs CD. The one with their big hit, or one of them. Oddly, doesn't really remind me of the Corrs. But then Paul McCartney didn't sound like the Beatles and Terry Jacks certainly didn't sound like The Poppy Family.

Always loved Jon Anderson, especially his work with Vangellis.

Wonder if you can give me a hand OT? PM if you like.

I am doing a disco project and I need strings that do scoops and falls. VSL Chamber Strings (none of their strings actually) have these articulations.

I know that basically scoops and falls are pitch bends up and down. But I'm having trouble getting just the right timing and feel when attempting these. They just don't sound right.

Any tips you can give me on playing techniques and/or other libraries to check out that are actual descent quality. I have NI Session Strings but honestly, next to VSL, sound like crap. The Chamber Strings (which I used for my first track) sound great but I had to do without the scoops and fills.

Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't really know, except I have found that SampleModeling, now AudioModeling took better to pitch bend in the horns I had than about anything else in samples, so kind of stands to reason that the modeling is a factor per se. They do make strings, and it's possibly smooth enough for pop work.* I couldn't find it for sale, what I found was *on youtube and the impossible has been achieved by somebody, a string orch from solo instruments. That's 120 bucks x 4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmFbHkvDvdM

(I worked with Session Strings once, and I needed spicatto, nice snappy response and I spent an enormous amount of time even getting something acceptable. It really was not fun.)

That said, I would look for something built to the purpose where the falls are sampled. There has to be something.

There is, but I can't find it again. It was either by 8Dio or Spitfire and was about $300. If I find it, I'll post an audio clip and you can tell me what you think.

The US missed a lot of stuff. That I've heard some of the stuff I have heard is a miracle with how crappy radio stations are in this country.
