The link from that site for Evo does score 2 on Virustotal but they aren't top of the line AV programs so I'm not sure if they're to be taken seriously.

Yes the Pace TPKd.sys used to be notorious for problems but that was many years ago. I assume they've cleaned it up since then.

But if you can't log in to the system not even in safe mode restore isn't going to do you any good.

No idea if this website is legit or not, but seemed ok to me. That Autotune
looked an old version or free version before the actual paid version.
"Evo Autotune" is a free demo-version of Autotune by Antares:
FAQ:
Is Evo autotune free?

The Auto-Tune Evo VST demo is available to all software users as a free download
with potential restrictions compared with the full version.

Yes the restriction is you can't use your computer after you install it...... :P

Well, that would be a highly challenging interpretation of the term
"free with restrictions". :scared:

I just had to re-install Windows 10 Monday. I'm about halfway through re-installing my software. Windows is so damn frustrating. I had a black screen of death (not blue) after trying to boot--after a Windows update. But I had delayed the next update weeks away, still, on starting my computer that time, it said, "Updating your system" before going black. I then got into a startup repair loop, and ever freaking option didn't work. I went through a bunch of searching a videos, trying various approaches.

Windows has all these repair/restore options, but they didn't work. I did manage a system restore once, but I lost audio and Focusrite drivers disappeared. I rebooted, and then, "Updating your system," and black screen. After that, System Restore said I didn't have permissions. I typed in some commands to get permissions, but that did not work. Then my restore points disappeared, one at a time, each time I went in, and the bastage Windows make a new and only restore point for that morning--which I couldn't access anyway.

Man did I spend some time looking at Linux again, but I feared too many issues with all my plugins and Ableton. But how can Windows suck so much? I know Catalina was a problem for Apple users, but do Apple users have similar problems to Windows users with crashes, with updates crashing systems, with repair tools sucking, with having to reinstall everything?

Same.
Same. Been using iLok for 18ish years with a dongle and have never had a problem. But I don't reconfigure my setup every 6 months like a lot of users evidently do. Of course now that I've said that it'll probably start my house on fire.

Maybe i even installed a virus  , no idea. But BSOD error was triggered by TPKD.sys which is part of PACE iLok. Why? I don't know.
the download link takes you thru to some totally dodgy sounding site called 'soft famous' - not any official antares site

at best it's an ancient demo - at worse it's a crack of an old version (and I mean old - as in 2008 : https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/tech ... evo-183704 )

At worst it could be downloading malware of some sort. It’s best to check the url before going to a site.

mike_the_ranger wrote: Sat Jul 11, 2020 10:33 pm Surely was a legit version, right? Only asking because I noticed the search results on google for this version number...
Only gonna say that iLok didn't override any driver or PACE central with an older version ever here.
If it would not have been a legit version then this would not have happened. All the non-legit versions of iLok plugins do not need iLok and are more stable and don't have any of the iLok issues. Which in turn leads to the ever old problem that non-paying people will get better experience than paying people.

The reason is most likely that in Win10 Microsoft has severely restricted the ability to run system driver level garbage by third parties and old iLok drivers are probably not compatible with those restrictions.

Never ever had problem with iLok, works excellent for over 10 years. When I read posts which contains: cant start windows, bsod, bad drivers, etc. - what first come to my mind is: illegal software, virus, computer illiterate, hardware issue due to older/incompatible components.
